Hawks Stumble out of the Gate After Loss to Boerne, 6-3

The CL Hawk’s errors matched the Boerne Greyhounds runs in an opening District 28-4A loss at the Hawk Nest on Tuesday night, 6-3.

Canyon Lake’s bats were also quiet for the first 6 innings as the only Hawk inning that had pressure on Boerne happened in the 4th inning when Marley Carrizales led off the inning with the first hit and two stolen bases had this CL runner on third base.

A strikeout ended that threat and then the Hawks 10 consecutive outs until a one out single in the bottom of the 7th frame.

Maddy Puente had the hit down the right-field line giving hope to a Hawk team that came into this game with a lofty .400 batting average.

Then with 2 outs, Lauren Mentzer singled to bring Puente home with the tying score.

Boerne would not quit and started the next inning with 2 singles and an error allowed two runs to score putting CL back in the hole.

A Hawk response came in the form of another one out single by Carley Dubois that had this speedster rounding the bases with 2 stolen bases and a score on a wild pitch.

Bailey Bryan would score next with a 2 out single and then Puente had her second hit putting runners at the corners.

Senior Kat Weber would knock the tying run across as both schools would staggered back for another inning.

This time Boerne took advantage of several Hawk errors and an eventual victory.

Hawks takes no Bull from Hondo!! Go Hawks

Mentzer had two outs when Boerne’s Saucedo doubled to left field. The next Greyhound batter would get a reprieve with a dropped ball in foul territory which turned into an error when that same batter hit a ball to short-stop which resulted in the second error and two runs.

The Greyhounds would then score another run after a single and double for their 3rd and final run of this inning.

Six runs and only one of those scores was earned and CL started this district season much like last year.

Errors and more errors resulted in a Hawk team that will need to rebound this Friday when they travel to Hondo to hopefully get that bad taste out of their mouth.

The Greyhounds are now all alone in first place while this season is already down to just 7 more games.

CL looked to be rusty after a 12 day period with out any contests and now will need to regroup quickly as they will go to Owl country this Friday for a team that won their last game with Bandera.

Go Hawks!!
