CL Gold Are Golden in Win Over Weiss, 28-6
What a difference a week made for CL’s Gold squad after playing an JV team last week vs. going against a more adaptable age group on Thursday. This Hawk Gold team was Golden in scoring in each quarter for a, 28-6 win over Weiss Maroon.
CL started slow with their first drive but got some defensive help when Alex Mejia would take a fumble 64 yards for the first score of this game and year.
That first series had a lot of Jacob Wilson making his presence known when this stalwart caused that fumble after blowing up the Wolves offensive line and then on a play before that fumble for a 5 yard loss.
Weiss had started this contest with a nifty 19 yard run and a 5 yard completion before Wilson would take things into his own hands in helping turn the tables on the Visitors.
“I was just trying to kick some butt,” Wilson said like a pro wrestler. “We just wanted to show them what this Hawk team is made of and we wanted to prove that to ourselves and I wanted to dedicate this game to my friend’s Maddy and Kaylee (Puente) who lost their Mom (Diane Puente) today.
Wow, that had to show some confidence in this young man to play for such a wonderful Mom and Lady in Mrs. Puente and her Lovely girls.
Wilson continued, “I wanted to make the coaches and players proud and we got a lot of our energy after that first loss last week.”
There was only one blimp in CL’s Gold defensive game after allowing one score on a 67 yard run which would be rectified quickly with that being the only damage and what would turn out to be that run resulting in half of the total yardage gained by Weiss in this win.
With the game still only a touchdown difference in the 2nd Half, 14-6, Defensive Back Sam Zinn took a scoring opportunity and tie score in the opposite direction after an interception and 87 yard run for a score that would seal the fate for the Wolves.
On if Zinn thought he would score, “Not at first but then my teammates had some great blocks for me and then all I did was concentrate on the goal line.”
It would result in a good rebound for this Gold team than now finds themselves even (1-1) for the season and ready to go to work next week for more improvement.
On what the difference was between these first two games, Wilson was first to say, “We needed that first loss to get us angry!”
A more subdued Zinn said, “That game certainly motivated us to work harder.”
Good thoughts as now this team will find out how a win might be a motivating factor for this coming week’s game.
And The Hawk Nation wants the Puente Family to know that we are Praying for you and to let you know that your Mom was a fun and engaging Lady….She Will be Missed!!
Good Win and Go Hawks!!
