Canyon Lake continued their winning ways as they scored a 100 in a win over San Antonio Burbank during the second game of a double header on Thursday night at the Hawk Nest.

That 100 score comes from a, 7-2 victory that reached the 100 win total for CL Hawk Baseball.

Signature Homes says, Go Hawks!

Matt Anderson and Tanner Schultz both pitched complete games while surrendering no earned runs in either outing.

CL’s pitching continues to impress as those two contests lowered this year’s team era to a remarkable, 0.76 after the first 13 games during this campaign.

The top 4 Hawk Pitchers are all under the 2 runs per game barrier after Anderson took a no-hitter to the 7th inning in his win over Carrizo Springs before ending the game giving up two hits.

“I’m going to blame Dalton (Stanley) for ruining my no-hitter,” Matt Anderson deduced. “He was telling the guys in the dugout to look at the score board and pointed out they (Carrizo Springs) did not have a hit.”

Matt Anderson continued on his strong outing, “I had my fastball and my curve ball was breaking over the plate and I just wanted to finish it and honestly, losing the no-hitter did not change my mindset.”

The Lake has is sitting at a team average of .282 with an on base percentage of .419 helping to have base runners with a chance to score.

During the middle part of the games thus far, the Hawks have scored 23 runs in the 4th inning and 20 runs during the 5th inning.

                  Let’s Go Hawks

On this double header win, CL was able to score 9 runs in the 5th inning combined that would be enough for a win in both battles.

Freshman Ty Sellers had 4 hits in both games and his single jump started that first win over Carrizo Springs driving in Tyler Pauly who started this inning with a two out walk.

Tanner Schultz’s two run single finished the scoring on an inning that was stopped by the hidden ball out that ended the frame.

“I just want to hit it hard and make them play the ball,” Schultz said when commenting on his two hits in that first game. “We have some good pitching but we still have a lot to improve on and get our sticks (batting average) up more.”

“I just want to put the ball in play and do my job,” Sellers said when responding to how this group of freshman don’t seem to be playing like freshman. “It helped when we played with a lot of our team in Summer League….but we just have to work hard and take every chance given to us.”

That same 5th inning is what succumbed SA Burbank when CL sent 12 athletes to the plate in that 6 run barrage.

                       Go Hawks!!

“The players have seen their pitcher two or three times and that third time we are more battled and can take their shots,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said when responding to how this crew has capitalized in scoring runs in those middle innings.

That 5th inning had CL down one run when Schultz hit a bomb over the left field fence that cut the Burbank lead to one run.

Then Ethan Slater started this inning by getting his hit by beating the throw hit to their 3rd baseman. Then James LaLonde hit a triple driving in Slater tying the score.

Tyler Pauly single had the Hawks with their first lead with more to come. A Brandon Robinson and Schultz walks loaded the bases when Ty Sellers’ 2 rbi single put more space for the Hawks and CL’s 11th win in this young season.

Slater would have his second hit in the inning when he sliced his hit to left-field scoring the last two runs in the 5th.

Schultz would have 22 more pitches to shut the door on Burbank and have a Canyon Lake sweep in their first day of Tournament games.

Here is where the Hawks All-Time Pitchers stand at this point in history.
