One of the main metrics when comparing two teams is checking out those common foes scores.
In this week’s game with Fredericksburg, these two schools have a similar, 0-2 record in games with Wimberley and Austin LBJ.
In the games played against Wimberley, the Billies and Hawks had narrow defeats with scores in the low 20’s. So that is a draw.
Austin LBJ would be a better comparison simply based on these two battles happening back to back weeks, with losses to that quick Jaguars team.
Fredericksburg suffered a 35-13 set-back while The Lake missed out by one score, 21-14.
Numbers can be misleading, in that, the recent Billie/Jaguar game had LBJ with a kick-off return touchdown and a late score that had the Jaguars needing 20 yards for a score during the late game, ‘needing to keep the ball to have any chance of making a comeback’, situation.
Take those 14 points off that final score and you have a similar point differential, 21-13.
Yes, The ReSporter, remembers that Canyon Lake had a 14 point swing on a fumble return for a touchdown deep in the Jaguars end of field. That one play might have changed the outcome for a Hawk win.
The Billies were averaging 40 points per contest in those first 5 weeks and have fallen on harder times with an average of 10 points during their last two outings.
Conversely, Canyon Lake had not been on their A game defensively in allowing right at 32 points per game before keeping Austin LBJ to a decent 14 point offensive contest. (In not counting the fumble returned TD)
What is not known is, will the Hawks defense, continue their solid outing two weeks ago or revert back to a contest played against Blanco with their 41 points scored.
Fredericksburg is one of 3 schools that Canyon Lake has played each season since that first year of games in 2008. The Billies are presently on a 2 game winning streak and Canyon Lake will want to make a call to Gordon the Plumber to stop that leak this coming Friday. Yes, Gordon the Plumber will make road house calls.
Freddie’s offense will start with QB Cole Immel who is leading the team in rushing with 464 yards and has passed over 1000 yards thus far. Another quarterback that can hurt you by his legs and arm which has been a common occurrence this season for your Hawks.
FHS has two other backs each with 300 yards on the ground and three receivers that have over 200 yards, so this could be a long night, if CL does not control both sides of the ball.
Judson Beard is right behind QB Immel in yardage gained per game with 110 which will be a player The Lake will need to have an eye on.
On the flip side, having a forfeit win for the CL might be what the doctor ordered as this gives a banged up Hawk team another week of healing which could get more players back into playing mode as this season comes down to 3 remaining contests.
Nice drive for the Hawk Nation to Fredericksburg for a win and securing a playoff spot.
Go Hawks!!
