District 28 has finished 99% of their regular season and Boerne had the best record with Canyon Lake being a close second.
These records will not show what the final pecking order when district season finishes since each school had different opponents and some games being sure wins and vice versa.
The ReSporter will start at the bottom of the standings and go up with a prognosis.
Bandera does not look like a team that will finish this season with a win after seeing their results.
All but two of their losses were by double digits and it was just one team (Devine) that won without getting to 10 or more runs against the Bulldogs. These Bulldogs will be put on a short leash.
Next is Freddie which had an up and down regular season until their final 3 contests which were all quality wins. Llano and Fort Worth Benbrook were two of those victories who are State Ranked.
San Antonio Christian is not as lethal as last season but still not an easy out. The Billies would be the sleeper team in district play for sure.
Davenport had a strong middle part of their schedule after starting with 4 losses and then a streak of 9 games without a loss.
This Wolf team has now lost 3 of their last 4 battles but one of those teams is State Ranked Navarro which was a double header. Those two losses were by a combined 21 runs so the wheels came off or there might have been injuries or spring break vacancies. The jury is still out on just how good this team will be but they do have some players and could make a run.
Wimberley will be a force when district starts with a quality win over Llano and a couple of ties against State Ranked Austin McCallum and Fort Worth Benbrook. A close loss to Antonian Prep before last week speaks volumes too as that school has beaten Boerne two times.
Speaking of Boerne, the Greyhounds beat a good Cornerstone school and then won their final tilt with Antonian after suffering two close losses before that bout.
A tough schedule until their last tournament when they beat up on some schools scoring 41 runs while giving up just two. Brings up that question of, how much should a good team, beat bad opponent. Scoring 41 runs while giving up 2 against 4 teams might be the answer to that question.
Finally, Canyon Lake found out they still have work to do after losing to San Antonio Johnson and Sinton.
These two schools had few weaknesses and knew how to take advantage of CL’s shortcomings. The Lake would welcome some rematches with some of those earlier games they lost this season but those losses cam build a team more than wins can many times and that is the question for this year’s version of the Hawks.
How will CL handle those schools that have not had any trouble beating Canyon Lake for years?
Coming back if in a hole early or being able to keep a lead during those last innings will let you know those answers as the season opens this Tuesday.
Fun times for the Hawk Nation and Let’s Go Hawks!!
