CL Hawks Win Statement Game in Sweeping Boerne, 12-9
Hawks Win Two and Sweep Boerne Pick One and Enjoy!!
A statement win for Canyon Lake as the Hawks swept Boerne Greyhounds for their best week of baseball in CL history and now have a log jam in first place with this, 12-9 victory.

A Wimberley loss to Freddie coupled with The Lake’s win has these three schools all having 4-2 District 28-4A records and only 4 games remaining.
Add another two District 28-4A teams (Billies & Wolves) with 3-3 records gives an idea of a district that still looks blurry.
The good news has the Texans and Greyhounds meeting for their last two games which would go a long way of determining which school will still be standing when all the dust settles. The Hawks can look at the above Headline Picture to clean that dust with some more sweeping.
Of course, Canyon Lake will need to do their part and sweep Bandera and Davenport for that inside track for a Baseball District Championship.
“In our last game (with Boerne) things had to work together and we had to stick to our plan and today we just came out and beat them,” a jubilant Head Coach Victor(y) Escamilla said. “When you are playing a good team at their house you just can’t play conservative and we came out and hit today and this week…we were the better team tonight.”
Two wins in a row over a team that had their way with CL anytime-anywhere-anyhow as Boerne could name their score for all those rubber stamp wins.

That changed this year and what is sad is knowing that last year’s Hawk team would have done this same thing. But a season cut short did not allow that scenario to be realized.
The Good News is having those Graduates in attendance next Friday as the Hawks will celebrate that crew of former students that were part of having a successful take-off to last year’s team and showing just how good the Hawks could excel.
Canyon Lake took control of this game quickly when the first 4 Hawks reached base safely with two hits, a walk, and one Hawk reaching on an error. That resulted in a 2 run advantage to start as the offense gave the ball to Pitcher Tyler Pauly who has now won 11 consecutive games on the mound.

One-Two-Three outs and this battle started just like it was scripted as this was the 4th inning in a row, scoring a run, on this #4th ranked squad.
That streak would increase another two more inning which showed CL scoring 14 runs in those 6 innings of work spanning two games.
Red hot Chase Anderson welcomed just as hot Matt McLain on his hit parade on this night as those two recorded 9 of the Hawks 14 hits on this record setting night.
“Ever since I started hitting this year I have a ton of confidence,” Chase Anderson said. “When I go up to bat I know I am going to get a hit. I have got a swagger and I just want to produce for the team!”
Produce is certainly a truism as this young man is leading the Hawks with a .434 batting average and for district a paltry .571 which is much better than hitting your weight.
Another coming out party that presented itself later in the game was seeing Griffen Williams returning after his injury using a cannon in his last two at bats for doubles to the wall and helping CL keep enough space between them and Boerne.

On what he was thinking before hitting his first double in the 6th inning, “I wasn’t thinking I was just swinging,” Williams said succinctly.
On that second double that helped give more cushion in the 7th inning, Williams was more to the point, “After that first pitch, I was looking for his pitch to be on the outside of the plate…yes I had a hole in my bat but that hit did not have a hole in it.”
Williams closed, “This was a very good win….a big win now we want to win district!!”
The Greyhounds had started their all out blitz in their 5th inning scoring 3 runs and reducing CL’s lead 9 run lead to 6 and bringing back memories from last Tuesday’s win but with these teams changing into a different uniform colors.
Boerne would continue to press with 2 more runs in the 6th which now had the Hawks holding onto 4 run lead, 9-5.
Insurance was needed and accomplished in the 7th inning with a one out walk for Hunter Anderson (his 3rd for the game) and then after a strikeout The Lake would start their two out rally when Chase Anderson singled followed by a Williams double driving in the Anderson Twins.
McLain would copy that with a bloop hit that turned to a double scoring Ty Sellers and a much needed Hawk 12-5 lead going into Boerne’s final frame.

This drama was not finished when the first Greyhound reached safely on an error which would spell the end to Pauly’s night.
Peyton McMullen would come in to slow down these Greyhounds that were running fast to catch their rabbit. A two step, strikeout-walk-strikeout-walk, had the bases loaded and the damage was 4 runs after two more Hawk errors and a double.
But the best pitch of the night would bring the curtain down when McMullen’s pivot pitch to 2nd base ended this game and had CL getting their brooms out of their closet to help in cleaning up the Boerne diamond.
A huge win that has Canyon Lake back in action on Saturday in a game against Llano before continuing their District 28-4A march for a Championship next week facing Bandera.
