CL Hawks Get Ready for Wimberley after Final Scrimmage

Hawk Talk after final scrimmage before season starts at home this Friday.

Canyon Lake had their dress rehearsal against Elgin and will now prepare for the 3rd Ranked Wimberley Texans this coming Friday, it will be a home game.

                      Let’s Go Hawks!!

The Hawks paraded 5 quarterbacks onto the field in hopes of finding that position’s heir apparent to 3 year graduate, Peyton McMullen.

“We executed better on offense,” Head Coach Charlie Drum started. “We played more physical…Wimberley will be fast and we will have to match up and I think we will be fine.”

Coach Drum’s comments also were in response to last week’s scrimmage with Cuero for comparison’s sake.

On finding a Quarterback? “We will look at film and see who might give us a best chance for a win.

With 5 QB’s auditioning for that one position will allow those players that will not be the first or second string a chance to get on the field on the defensive side of the ball.

“We will have to find a place for those people and figure out who the best ones are,” Coach Drum finished.

CL’s defense returns a strong group of players from last season and in this scrimmage as well against Cuero, this group performed well and will play a a pivotable part in controlling an explosive Texan squad.

Kolten Ramey says Defense is ready after good showing against Elgin.

“Our defense is ready,” Kolten Ramey stated. “We still will be able to add more depth when the coaches decide who they will want at quarterback.”

This scrimmage had two live quarters and the clock was continuous even after a score or change of possessions.

The Hawks had too many penalties with one mishap taking a 75 yard touchdown run away from Shayne Moss.

“I was so upset finding out after my big play, but you just have to turn the page and keep going,” Moss said stoically. “We had a much better week and everyone was getting their assignments and doing all we can.”

“We were close last year (24-22) and we will need to be 100% better and not let mistakes happen twice.”

Canyon Lake was still without some of their key players that will have hopes for a chance to suit up this coming week.

Another week to hone their skills and prepare for a highly ranked Texan team while your Hawks hope to bring the Battle of the Back-Bone Trophy back home to the Green & Gold.

Go Hawks & Beat Wimbo!!
