Canyon Lake has played 3 teams since football started on the varsity level in 2008. Fredericksburg is one of those teams along with Wimberley and Blanco that the Hawks have faced.
The Lake has one of their best records playing the Billies with their series presently standing with 9 wins and 4 losses.
This year looks to be like another contest that will have battles with hopes that CL can win the war.
Both teams come in with the same overall record (4-3) and District 13-4A Division I (1-1) as this game will have both teams on the back end of district games with hopes of making a post-season berth.
The Billies and Hawks have two schools that have been common opponents. Autins LBJ and Wimberley are those two teams and both won their match-ups.
Freddie comes in with a balanced offensive attack and rank high compared to their district counterparts defensively.
Canyon Lake has similar marks on the defensive side of the ball which might give an idea of not seeing a lot of points put on that scoreboard.
The Burg only gives up 85 yards per game on the ground and the Slot-T Hawks has seemed to have found their rushing attack running on all cylinders after reaching the 300 mark in two consecutive games with a district average of 382 yards.
CL will have their hands full in controlling both sides of the ball defensively and this will be a must for giving the Home team a chance for a win.
Running Back Jesse Leija averages 120 yards per game rushing and QB Cole Immel is averaging a very respectable 151 yards passing.
Both teams will be watching the scoreboard with LBJ and Lampasas game that will give the district a front runner and the loser tied with the winner of this battle tonight.
District 13-4A had this exact scenario this time last year which had CL finishing with a 3rd seed with hopes of changing that by winning out and securing a 2nd seed.
Kolten Ramey is averaging over a sack a game and will be a key for the Hawks to defense the Billies passing attack as this year’s defensive backs are on pace to have their best year for interceptions.
CL’s slot-t has had 3 Hawk running backs making a mark with Helijah Johnson, James Bates, and Shayne Moss upping their game. Add QB Hunter Anderson who finished with 77 yards in last week’s contest that should give Fredericksburg more places to defend in stopping a potent rushing attack.
Freddie comes into this road battle with a 3-0 record and will look to continue that trend, while this game will help solve more of those puzzle pieces when Friday is finalized for this district race.
Let’s Go Hawks!!
