CL Hawks Apply Care to Pirates After a, 10-2 Walk the Plank Episode
Canyon Lake finished their 4 game 3 day Corpus Christi trip with a 3-1 record after securing a 7 run first inning on their way for a, 10-2 final.
That first inning had 12 Hawks come to bat and with a triple (Ty Sellers) and two doubles, Chase Anderson/Brayden Welch). Those hits coupled with 4 errors, 2 walks and one hit batter resulted for a lot of breathing room to start this contest.
Griffen Williams gave up just one run in his 4 innings of work before Travis Parma (with his first appearance on the mound this season) pitched 3 innings for his first career save in this win.
The Lake was able to have every player that rode on the team bus with entrance on the diamond as Head Coach Victor Escamilla emptied the bench for defense and offense.
During this time of the season there are many schools already into their district schedule and Mathis was no different in wanting to save their higher up pitchers and instead some pitcher’s that might not have had much playing time from this year.
As the game progressed, the Mathis Pirates, got work for those better pitchers and that would have Coach Escamilla having a chance to see this Hawk bench batting against tougher pitching than what started the game.
After suffering CL’s first shut-out (5-0 loss to Calallen) the Hawks were able to reach 10 runs for the 9th time this year and that has this team in second place chasing last year’s club when they hit their way for 13 during the Regional Quarter-Finalist last year..
The pleasant surprise was seeing how well Parma did when called upon to finish on the mound.
“I knew that I might be on the reserved list in case of an emergency,” Parma said like a Paramedic. “Yeah, I was expecting this a little bit.”
Parma had some different instruments in his EMT bag by pitching with a side-arm delivery, “I had been throwing overhead but I did not have enough speed so this summer I started working on my sidearm and this was good to be put in this game with a lead to get game experience.”
After the final out, Parma and Canyon Lake were able to get this Pirate team all loaded up and to the hospital for care.
CL will be back in action when Central Catholic will bring their Buttons and 13-4 record to The Nest for a 7:00pm first pitch.
There will also be a presentation before game time for Head Coach Escamilla for the Hawk Nation to show support for reaching the 400 win milestone.
Congrats Coach and Hawks!!
