Hawks Softball Took Dog out of Bull in Bandera Win, 3-2

Canyon Lake was able to stop their 2 game slide against the District 28-4A stalwarts in beating Bandera and evening their district record to, 2-2.

                 Way to Go HAWKS!!

Next up will be an important battle pitted against Davenport and with a win can go a long way in securing a post-season berth.

This game was in the hands of Gabby Barnes after pitching a 3 hitter while striking out 11 Bulldogs. On the offensive side, Barnes went 3 for 4 with two doubles and a run batted in as she continues to keep a high batting average .631 from the top of the batting order.

“Our defense made the routine plays that we needed to get behind Gabby Barnes’ 11 strikeout performance,” Head Coach Hayley Galloway said matter of factly. “The bats were slow to start but we got better as the game went on. We had a lot of hard hit balls last night that got hung up in the wind or hit right at defenders.”

Of the 10 Hawk hits, 4 went for two bases and while only striking out just 3 times.

“We hope to take the momentum from Tuesday’s game into Friday night in a big matchup against Davenport,” Galloway closed.

                       Way to Go Hawks!!

Shelby Porter double drove in the first Hawk run in the bottom of the first. CL had 3 hits but could not garner any more runs.

The Bulldogs took a lead in the 3rd frame, using a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly for one run and an error helped secure their first lead, 2-1.

That Bandera advantage did not last long when Barnes started this inning rapping an infield single and then with one on our Riley Glenn-Millhouse doubled Barnes home tying the score at 2 runs a piece.

Senior Emma Lane will be an important piece of Hawk’s trek through district play at catcher.

Glenn-Millhouse continues her climb in Hawk lore with her 31st rbi this season which ranks 3rd for number of rbi’s in a season behind Brianna Young (33 in 2014) and Bailey Bryan (41 in 2018).

CL would strike again with what would be the winning run when Barnes doubled to centerfield driving Rianna Gonzales who had singled earlier.

Barnes would get out of trouble at the start of the 4th after an one out double who was left stranded after a strikeout and fly ball to end the inning to left fielder Madison DeLeon.

Bandera had one last chance to tie the game with two outs in the 7th inning with a single and error putting two Bulldogs on base but a 4 pitch Barnes strikeout would end the threat and give CL this much needed win.

Friday will have another tough opponent as the Hawks were able to see Davenport in their opening tournament in Navarro and a win would help solidify one of those 4 post season invitations.
