CL Hawk’s Volleyball Fall Short in Loss to Johnson City

Katelyn Davis deepened Canyon Lake’s depth chart after good showing filling shoes of a starter.

A tough night of Volleyball as Canyon Lake found out that an Eagle Nest is much bigger than a Hawk Nest as Johnson City swept The Lake.

                        Let’s Go Hawks!!

It took a set before CL would wake up as their 2nd set was more competitive as the Hawks and Eagles were tied up at 17 points a piece.

But another slow finish as JC outscored Canyon Lake, 7-3 and then breezed thorough that final set winning, 25-13 that finished the sweep.

“We will continue to work on finishing stronger,” Head Coach Kim Clemons stated. “Sometimes we have one domino fall and then before you know all the dominoes have fallen.”

Johnson City went 3 rounds in last year’s UIL Tournament and will certainly be a force this season in their region.

Canyon Lake could not find their footing to open the match after securing their first offensive points to start their 2nd rotation with two kills by Haley Eckert and one for Emily Pena securing a final kill before running out of ammo in a 25-14 loss.

With a missing starter, Senior Kaitlyn Davis, came into action to fill that spot and the results was strengthening the depth charts for Coach Clemons as the Hawks continue their weekend tournament tour with a San Marcos visit starting this Thursday.

                     Let’s GO HAWKS!!

“I found out I might be starting a day before and I was nervous stepping up,” Davis said when asked her thoughts before her game and finished with 9 digs. “I started doing better during the second set as I could read the hitters better and I told myself that I just needed to play volleyball.”

On what was learned from last weekend’s tourney, “We had 4 games back to back and that will help us knowing we can play a whole game when we start to get tired and not quit and stay focused.”

Canyon Lake will have another home game next Tuesday when San Marcos comes to the Hawk Nest with the district schedule getting started on Friday September 9th at Navarro.

Go Hawks!!
