Hawks Volleyball Earn a Snack & Snuggies after a Tough Tourney Win

Haley Eckert & Madison Hartman are at home at the net.

Canyon Lake’s Volleyball had an exhausting week-end competing in the Pieper Warrior Showcase.

          Have a Great Season Hawks!!

How exhausting? On Friday The Lake played 4 games back-to back-to back-to back-to back. (wait, I might had put too many, to backs there) With a decent 2-2 result.

That had the Hawks with a 10:15 start on Saturday with another game with out any R & R that was when the quote of the day was yelled out from Head Coach Kim Clemens to her girls, “Get 3 more points and we Snack & Snuggle!!!”

A loss in this battle with Judson would have had another back to back (there we go again) scenario.

A 36-34 win over Judson in that first set which is the longest or most points ever scored by a CLHS Volleyball team. So, getting those 3 points was paramount.

This tough set had Canyon Lake with a 4 point lead, 22-18 when the Judson coach asked for a time-out and then one of the most motivating words ever spoken (snacks & snuggle) helped push them to a, 25-22 satisfying victory.

               Go get’em next Hawks!!

Earlier Canyon Lake had their chances to pull off a win to start this Saturday but getting to the top of that hill was just out of reach when Lee eked out a, 22-25 & 22-25 result.

The Hawks finally had a rest but still tired on this two day grinder would lose to Laredo United South, 24-26, 27-25, & 18-25. “This loss was not that bad since it meant no more games because our team was spent,” Coach Clemens said during a jarring yawn.

On thoughts coming out of this tourney with a larger school tournament, “I’m very happy with how our girls faced the grind and we just gritted it out and by playing larger schools will help as this season continues,” Coach Clemens closed.

Friday Canyon Lake was able to take two games against NC College and Judson (again) and this time they had a three game bout with CL coming from one down to win the final two sets by identical, 25-21 scores.

For this two day marathon, Emily Pena led with 29 kills followed with Claire Schroeder with 15. Huntleigh Morast lead all players with 8 Aces and in Assists Pena lapped the team totaling 49.

Haley Eckert had a very good two days at the net with 7 blocks or one per game average and finally Maddie Oberholtzer led the team with 34 digs with Schroeder next having 27.

Canyon Lake will have an opportunity to see if they have improved since that first tourney in Wimberley where Johnson City swept the Hawks.

First serve will come at 5:30pm and the Varsity will start after those sub-varsities finish.

Let’s Go Hawks and get play for some more Snacks & Snuggies!!
