CL Hawks Walk-Off Sacrifice Fly over Billies, 7-6
The Hawks finally found a way to beat Fredericksburg as CL salvaged a win with a walk-off sacrifice fly from Hayden Baker scoring Carter Williams in a 12 inning affair, 7-6.
This was the longest game in Hawk history and Hunter Anderson’s 5 innings of relief was the longest for a Hawk in not giving up a run. Striking out 10 Billies would help with allowing 3 walks and hitting 3 batters during Hunter’s outing.
These two teams combined in leaving 29 players on base with The Lake having 17 of those.
Fredericksburg struck fast in their first at bat with a lead-off single that was followed with a sac bunt and an infield out leaving a Billie on 3rd base and a two out hit plating their first run.
That lead held up for the 4 innings and then Canyon Lake finally broke their scoreless streak when Travis Parma led off the inning with a single.
Then two consecutive bunt singles from the Anderson’s Twins and then a line drive single off the bat of Carter Williams gave CL a, 2-1 lead but could not scratch across more runs.
That lead was seized back in the top of the 6th when the Billies had 3 straight hits with a double driving in two runs and giving Freddie that one run lead back, 3-2.
CL batted around in the bottom of that same frame with some help with FHS errors and Hunter Anderson single driving in 2 runs to give the Hawks a lead back, 4-3.
Canyon Lake scored two more times on a Griffen Williams and Hayden Baker singles that left your Hawks with a safer, 6-3 advantage.
Fredericksburg came through in the top of the 7th being helped by a Hawk error and a double that tied this battle at 6 runs a piece.
During those next 4 extra innings both teams had opportunities but to no avail. Both teams combined for
4 walks, 4 hits, 3 batter’s hit by pitch and one reaching base via error.
But it was a 12 inning that had everything going for CL’s advantage when Hunter Anderson giving up his first hit but the Billies next batter bunted the ball into the waiting glove of Anderson’s and a throw to first double play.
CL would turn that defensive momentum into a lead-off walk for Carter Williams and then a Griffen Williams single a Brayden Welch fielder’s choice that advanced Carter to 3rd base and with one out tagging and scoring when Baker had a full count fly ball that scored a long awaited Hawk (Carter Williams) run for the win.
The Hawks will now face 2nd place Davenport next week taking to the road on Tuesday and then back home on Thursday.
