CL Hawks Softball Uses Jiu-Jitsu Winning Blanco Tourney
Gabby Barnes continues her strong season with some nifty Hawk wins! Way to Go Lake!!
The Lake’s Softball team finished first in this past week’s Blanco Tournament undefeated with the only blemish a tie against Blanco in a contest that had some starters not present which certainly would have changed that outcome.
In that last win over Poth, 2-0, CLHS gave those Pirates their 3rd loss of this year. A team that has another, 11-12 loss to a 16-5 Fredericksburg club that stands on the top of the hill in district.
Gabby Barnes pitched a 4 hitter and struck out 10 but her best stat was no walks. Barnes has been on fire in her last few outings but her kryptonite was giving up free passes in those later innings. Not in this game and that helped this Hawk team hold on for a 2 run win.
CL’s score in the bottom of their first inning gave, The Lake, all the runs needed. Cheyenne Fields’ triple drove in Barnes who had singled starting this contest.

During the 4th frame, Canyon Lake scored their final run via a bases loaded walk that had Aubrey Avey with an rbi that brought home Rianna Gonzales.
That insurance run was a welcome sight and now CL has 10 wins on this season and is above .500 for the first time since their opening season win over Randolph.
After that opening win, Canyon Lake was pitted against several larger schools and lost their next 6 games. Since that opening salvo, this comeback team, has constructed an impressive, 9-3-1 record.
Coach Hayley Galloway has used her jiu-jitsu this season which has seen several different players all over the field with some more jiu-jitsu batting line-ups.
Those results have built confidence as Canyon Lake will now concentrate for their upcoming district slate before playing two more non-district games this week with Navarro on Tuesday and Eula on Friday at the Hawk Nest.
