Goliath was pelted with some stones but in the end Davenport was able to succumb the upstart minded Canyon Lake Hawks….after running out of rocks in the Hill Country (which is a stretch) in a hard fought loss, 61-42.

         GO HAWKS & Beat Pleasanton!!

The 5th Ranked 4A Wolves only loss this season was against an undefeated 5A 5th Ranked Pieper Warrior team with rankings according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

With this loss, The Lake will still have some unfinished business and has a chance of missing the playoffs if they lose to Pleasanton. The Eagles beat Uvalde and with a victory over CLHS would have both teams with a 3-3 record.

A Somerset win over Fredericksburg would result in seeing The Lake out of a playoff invitation list. A Somerset loss to the Billies coupled with a Hawk loss produces a 3-way log jam for that 3rd-4th place slot and a Bi-District spot with all 3 teams sporting 3-3 district records.

The Hawks started this contest exchanging blows with Davenport but too many explosive plays found CLake without enough time to grab more rocks to down this giant.

QB Jace Wheeler did make an appearance which helped Canyon Lake being able to keep pace for much of this battle.

Go Hawks & Beat the Eagles!

It was the 3rd quarter that found the best of times but ended in a worst of times category….The Hawks started with the ball after halftime and looking at a 6 point deficit, 21-27.

A short kick-off left Davenport being able to steal a possession for a chance to get separation. CL’s Defense however rose in this situation producing a 4 down turnover for the Visitors leaving 67 yards needed for a Hawk lead.

It took CL only 3 plays starting and ending with a Carter Williams 16 yard catches and sandwiched  by  James Garza finding space (thanks to the offensive line) for a 35 yard run. Up until that play, The Lake was only able to amass 20 yards rushing for that first half, 28-27.

 Go Lake & Don’t Make it Pleasant(ton)

Another 4th down turnover for Davy showed promise but CL could not produce a first down and that found the Wolves needing 89 yards with an explosive 60 yard pass and a quick score CL would not be able to close this gap for the rest of this quarter.

Another Hawk interception on the next set of downs gave DHS a one play pass from 48 yards out and a quick, 41-28 lead.

CL still was grounded again which resulted with another punt that had Davenport producing a 46 yard punt return and score raising their lead to 20 points, 48-28.  That was compounded with another interception and  45 yard return to paydirt, 54-28.

CL’s 4th Quarter had two touchdowns which got the Hawks back to within 12 points with 8 minutes remaining, but the Wolves would drain the clock over 5 minutes with an 11 play drive and final score, 61-42.

Canyon Lake finished with 516 total yards with Garza (191 yards rushing) and Williams (196 yards receiving) showing that this Hawk team had no quit in this contest.

Williams 196 yards was the most in CL’s history passing Eric Nelson’s 181 back before the slot-t was installed.

All-Time Top-5 Season Receiving Stats:

Eric Nelson 925 2009
Carter Williams 786 2024

Eric Nelson 602 2008
Matt Madness 560 2010

The Hawks will be on the road with a must win game against Pleasanton to would give CL a 3rd seed bi-district contest against the winner of a Taylor/Austin Travis contest.

Leave no stone unturned to finish off this last district opponent…Let’s Go Hawks!!
