Canyon Lake cleared a hurdle with their Boys Basketball team this season when a playoff was achieved in Head Coach Monte Cole’s third season.
The ReSporter was able to get with Coach Cole for an ending basketball article while also updating The All-Time Top 10 Basketball Stats for Career & Season.
We had a bit of an up and down season but by the end, we had really figured out our identity and what we needed to do to win games. We had alot of firsts this season for the program, so it was a big step in the right direction as far as continuing to build confidence and establish our culture.
This year’s Seniors for the most part had been with me since their sophomore year, so it was fun seeing their growth and motivation to have a good senior year and continue moving the program forward. I think they can look back and be proud of their accomplishments and will continue to follow the program and see how this year’s team elevated the expectations of being in the basketball program.
Hello Coach, give us your thoughts on what take-a-ways you garnered this season, “I think our returners and kids we’re looking at filling open spots next year have a hunger to continue winning and I fully expect them to take that into our offseason and keep it going into summer and next year.”
Coach Cole continued, “They saw first-hand what playing hard is supposed to look like and they know what it’s going to take to get back to the playoffs and win once we’re back.”
Share to the Hawk Nation about those up and comers from the Sub-Varsity teams, “The biggest things we emphasize with our sub-varsities is showing improvement throughout the season. I feel like both our JV and freshmen teams did that and will continue to work hard to keep improving.”
What do you know about those 8th Graders? “The incoming freshmen next year have some good kids and I’m looking forward to having them on campus. Our middle school coaches do a great job preparing them so it’s becoming a more and more seamless transition because those kids know expectations, terminology, scheme, etc. I know our current 7th grade group had a really good year with some really talented players that play well together, and our 6th graders have a lot of talented kids as well. I’ve had conversations with parents already about their son playing on teams in the spring and summer to continue improving and working on their skills.”
Thanks Coach….many of this year’s seniors had been together for 3 years and many of those players have entrenched themselves in that All-Time list below.
Hope you enjoy the list and Go Lake!!
