The Hawks were able to break out of their chains in time to clinch a playoff spot in their win over Fredericksburg, 53-31.
With this win, Canyon Lake, was able to sweep the Billies this season (the first time ever) while beating Freddie by their most points ever….(22 pts).
Coach Monte Cole responded when asked what Carter Williams ate before this game, “He ate a Frito pie.” Carter Williams was a polar opposite of the game finding Waldo as Williams dominated this contest filling the stat book.
“We’re just peaking at the right time,” Coach Cole responded in response to how Canyon Lake seemed to be firing in all aspects in this win. “Guys are playing really hard and are locked in to what our game plan is each game….Mixing up our presses and still being solid in half court is really what’s elevated us I think.”
So after being energized by a Frito Pie Williams combined for another double-double scoring 16 points with 14 rebounds while adding 3 assists-3 steals-1 block for his night of work.
Dalton Stromquist missed only one shot and joined Williams in double digit scoring with 13 in this win.
Phoenix Fuentes led the team with 5 assists and The Lake, as a team, had 16 along with 12 steals for this dominating victory.
The Hawks started this contest slow while Freddie worked a 5 point lead twice during the opening period (9-4 & 11-6) before Reese Pipkin got nothing but the bottom of the net on a 3 pointer coming from an assist from Jaxson Jeter.
Jeter finds himself just 4 assists shy of tying Tyler Pauly (214) at the top of that statistical category.
CLHS would craft their best 2nd quarter of action this season scoring 20 points while holding the Billies to 8 and a Hawk, 29-19 lead at intermission.
Freddie was stuck with 11 points while CLake scored 13 unanswered points before the Billies’ next bucket that showed 4:47 left before halftime.
Fredericksburg would not reach double digit scoring in a quarter for the remainder of this battle scoring 12 points total in that 2nd half and never able to close the gap on this resilient Lake team.
Shooting right at 50% from the floor and 65% inside the arc made up for CL’s dismal showing from the charity stripe and beyond.
Canyon Lake continues a hot streak inside the 3point arc hitting 51% during the district part of their schedule.
Now the Hawks will conclude district play when Bandera comes calling this Tuesday and with a little added sauce in wanting to reverse that last battle against the Bulldogs who won at their house.
Way to Go HAWKS!
