CL Hawk’s Boys Basketball Start Season, 3-1

Let’s Go Lake!
Canyon Lake’s Boys Basketball has started their season with a blistering pace with a 3-1 start a loss to New Braunfels Unicorns last Wednesday.
In the Lake’s first three games, the Hawks outscored their opponents by 119 points with a very impressive 61% assist to field goals made during this 4 game start.
Nine of CL’s 11 players have 20 or more points led by Senior point guard Phoenix Fuentes.
“I thought our game with New Braunfels that we did some good things but against good teams like NB, we can’t lose focus as much as we did,” Head Coach Monte Cole assessed. “Good teams will make us pay for it. It was a great game for us to see what areas we need to improve moving forward.”
On Coach Coles thoughts on what he has seen thus far? “I like our team, we have a lot depth and good chemistry. We just have to keep improving everyday and every game. Looking forward to seeing where this team is when we get to January and February.
Plug those Leaks Lake!
The Hawks are averaging a little over 16 assists and 14 steals per outing and at this writing having a 65 points per game clip.
There are a lot of changeable players which gives CL’s Coaching staff many options based on in game situations.
Fuentes did turn in an impressive 14 points in that loss to the Unicorns as that team had lots of length which led to very few offensive rebounds and passing lanes not as open as in those previous three wins.
Canyon Lake will be back in action this coming week with a home game against Ingram-Moore on Tuesday (5:00pm Sub-Varsity & 6:30p Varsity tip-off).
The Lake will then be off to Aransas Pass on Thursday playing in their first tournament.
