Volleyball: CL Hawks Run Away with Win Over Marion
Canyon Lake ran away with their score over Marion winning, 3-0 in their Tuesday match up with the Bulldogs.
“Coach (Paisley) said that if they scored over 12 points then their would be consequences,” Junior Setter Regan Mickey said.
When asked what those consequences might be, Mickey was succinct, “We knew Coach would have us running.”
So that will explain the three set scores: 25-17, 25-20, and 25-7. Notice that last set score and you will see a group of players taking their coach seriously.
The two outside hitters had good matches finishing the contest with 17 and 13 kills for Addison Farley and Bailey Drum respectively.
There was good play all around in the game from the net to the back row as each player had a say in the final score.
“We needed to pick up our intensity and in that last game they basically picked it up,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “Our defense is the key and we will win with good defense.”
That was evident as with Drum leading the way on this night with her blocks.
Canyon Lake is now riding a 6 game winning streak heading into their game on Friday in Austin against St. Dominic Savio.
In that first set against Marion, the Bulldogs last lead was, 6-5 before Farley served four points and getting the separation needed to carry the set to the wire.
The Bulldogs played a much more competitive game in the second set as they were within one point (15-14), before Libero Sam York served for 6 points to ice the second set.
Regan Mickey had a kill and block in that rally with Farley getting 2 of her kills during the run.
“Our team is closer than last year’s team and we are playing more like a team,” Mickey said. “Playing those tougher teams in the NEISD tournament motivated us.”
On what type of offense she likes the best, Mickey said, “I like the 5-1 better and I think our team plays that better because they are used to my passes….Faith (Hasness) can set but we will always be a different and it takes getting used to.”
In that third set, Marion tied it at 1 all before the Hawks started thinking about those consequences and Senior Alexis Robinson decided to have a run of her own when she served for 11 straight points and giving the Hawks a, 17-2 lead.
Marion scored one point in that third set with CL ahead 24-6 before a final kill by Farley and helping Canyon Lake to an 18-8 season record as district gets closer with each passing day.
So, no running by the varsity with the win and that motivation might be used again since it worked so well on this night, plus, Bulldogs are not a fast running dog.
Go Hawks!!
