Canyon Lake had a much needed win last Tuesday, when the Hawks went into Geronimo to take down the Panthers in three sets.

Now, with Friday’s win over Cuero, the Hawks will have another challenge on the road this Tuesday with a perennial Wimberley team that’s name is code for ‘Volleyball Supremacy’.

A very short road trip for the Hawk Nation to help make a statement in finishing the first half of district play undefeated.

CL has two of the top 4 teams to go in District 26-4A as the Hawks will welcome La Vernia this Friday night.

There is not a football game on Friday so a trip to the Hawk Nest would be a great way to enjoy an evening.

Both of these schools have a combined record against Canyon Lake of, 17-2 all-time tally.

That is what makes this week a good one for Volleyball, as CL will also try to get their first win ever against the Texans and if that can be accomplished, then that would also mean a set win for the first time against Wimberley.

Yes, the Hawks are a dismal 0-36 game record and would hope this could be the year for getting an eraser out to start marking some numbers that don’t involve a loss.

Last year, your Hawks and Wimberley met undefeated and the same verse was sung as Canyon Lake folded against the name and team called the Texans.

Wimberley has not had a great year and will be wanting to get back on track and what better opportunity than getting a win over Canyon Lake.

The Texans had not lost a set in at least 8 years in district play (The ReSporter can only go back so far in digging up records from the past) and this season will tell you of how far off this year’s  Wimberley team has fallen.

Take a deep breath and contemplate these numbers. The most sets a volleyball team can win is 3 in a regular season game. Volleyball is a best out of of five scenario and so the first team to 3 sets will get the victory.

So, Wimberley (which really means ‘Volleyball’) finished last season with a 76-0 record in those years and by multiplying that number by 3 you would now have the amount of sets the Texans have won (228) in a row since the 2008 season when Canyon Lake High School was born.

This season, the Texans, have a 3-1 district record with a 10-5 record for sets in a game which tells you that Wimberley might have some kryptonite in their suit case causing their fall from heights seldom seen by mortals.

A statement game for the Hawks has now been raised as Navarro was the first team to stop the Game and Set streaks two weeks ago and La Vernia has now joined that club by winning 2 sets in their loss last Friday.

How can Canyon Lake make a statement against a team that has won more games by just getting off the bus than the Hawks have played in their short history?

A Sweep would do that trick. Navarro won their game in 4 sets and your Hawks can also go into the Texans abode and not let Wimberley even have a taste of satisfaction.

The good news is that the Hawk’s season has been crafted by a coach that was an instigator for what has become a household name when folks talk about volleyball.

Good Luck this week and let’s have a huge crowd show up for both games this week as a two game sweep over the Texans and Bears would give your Hawks an undefeated first half to what could be a special year.

Go Hawks!!
