Mountain Valley 7th Grade Go Ofer in their Match-Up with Panthers
Mountain Valley 7th Grade lost both games against Liberty Hill Middle School last Thursday at the Hawk nest as the Panthers brought a large contingence of players in both wins.
In that first game, Mountain Valley made a game in what was started as a romp.
Liberty Hill enjoyed a 16-0 lead going into halftime as well as dominating both lines of scrimmage.
Then, Running Back Preston Nelms was awakened with only 16 yards rushing in that first half, Nelms then turned on his after burners as he almost broke the 100 yard barrier.
“Coach asked who would step up during our halftime talk,” Nelms said with resolve. “Our lineman finally started doing what they were suppose to do.”
On almost scoring on that long run but coming up one yard short, “Their player just picked me up and threw me down and that made me mad because I did not reach it (the goal line).
The Hawks would score twice in the second half to get within a touchdown to the Panthers.
LH would score one more time with their offense and then a disparate pass with no time on the clock was intercepted and returned for a touchdown to give what would look like a blow away game, 30-14.
Mountain Valley started the second half with a new resolve and took 9 plays covering 65 yards scoring with under 2 minutes remaining in the 3rd quarter.
On that possession, Nelms would uncork a beautiful 42 yard run down to the 1 yard line where Jacob Wilson would score 3 plays later.
The Hawk defense would hold the Panthers on their next set of downs and MVMS would take this next drive from 36 yards out and get within 2 points of their nemesis, 14-16.
That score still had over 3 minutes to play and a possible miracle on the Guadalupe.
Liberty Hill would not succumb to the Hawk momentum and proceeded to score after a failed onside kick to give this game a good try but no bananas result.
Mountain Valley would out gain their counterparts in that second half by 73 yards and give a good spark for their next week’s game.
“We are coming to play and we are going to make our record 1-1 with Liberty Hill,” Nelms said with conviction. “Coach says there is always that next play and that is how we will go at next week’s game.”
Good words as you could tell those next plays certainly put a scare into those Panthers on this night.
Go Hawks!!
