Hawks Gobble up the Gobblers, 3-0
Canyon Lake avenged their only set loss for this season as they swept the Cuero Gobblers, 25-18, 25-15, and 25-18.
CL continues their hot streak as they win their 18th game in a row and stay undefeated at 10-0 in district play.
“We are still not done,” Head Coach Kim Paisley said. “A 12-0 record in district looks better than our 10-0 right now.”
With this win the Hawks have clinched a share of a District Championship needing just one more victory to have the title outright.
Cuero played a tough game as each set, Canyon Lake, would finally get separation at that 15 point barrier before taking their opponent out.
The Navarro game last Friday was played in similar fashion, where the Hawks out lasted and took control in each set.
CL is now 14-0 against 4A Schools this campaign and also improved to an unblemished 8-0 mark for road games.
The Hawks only allowed Cuero with service points 3 times in the first two sets which would finally allow CL to get their separation and eventual win.
Cuero had 6 times with a serve that scored and on those chances the Gobblers served 25 times. Those side outs were key in keeping Cuero from having a chance with any rallies.
During this match, the Gobblers were only able to sustain a rally to a 2 point maximum which happened 5 times through the match.
“We were a little slow tonight and the game seemed awkward,” Sophomore Faith Hasness assessed. “We just felt off on things.”
Hasness is left handed and there are times during a game when she has a chance for a kill that will surprise the opponents and fans.
“It feels good to be able to do that hit and it does catch them off guard,” Hasness said strategically.
Canyon Lake beat Cuero soundly score wise in each set yet this team continues to amaze as those comments would indicate there is much more work to be done.
With Canyon Lake’s next victory they will tie last year’s team with 31 wins and are now guaranteed the lowest number of losses since play begin in 2008.
A Wimberley loss to La Vernia has kept Cuero in the hunt for getting into the playoffs as Cuero will need to win their next two games and two losses for the Texans.
Seeding is now set for the first three teams as Wimberley will attempt to hold off Cuero for that 4th seed.
On thoughts for how this team will finish for their next two games? “I think we have enough motivation to go 12-0,” Hasness finished.
This game keeps adding to a standard being set for future teams to aspire and achieving, as last year’s club started the climb that this group of athletes would like to finish.
Go Hawks and Beat Wimberley!!
