MV 8th B Team Wins District beat Boerne, 16-0
Mountain Valley’s 8th Grade B football team came from a one win team last year to winning a District Champion after shutting out Boerne, 16-0.
“Our B-team played great on both sides of the ball,” Head Coach Raymond Amaro said. “It is difficult to beat a good team twice, but our boys worked hard all week in practice and were ready.”
It was all about the defense on Thursday as MVMS 8B team started this day giving up 4 yards on the Greyhounds first drive then would block their punt.
That would allow the Hawks with a 30 yard drive as this drive was highlighted after a Colton Eilers 21 yard run giving MV a first down on Boerne’s 5 yard line.
Enter Paul Martinez and a 9 yard run on third down and for all intense and purposes a win.
Mountain Valley would score again on their next possession after Martinez would return this punt 29 yards. Now only needing a 41 yard drive for their next score.
On this drive, Martinez would take the first snap 28 yards and another short field for the score when Hunter Niemuth taking the ball in on a fourth down play from 12 yards and a, 16-0 lead.
Mountain Valley’s defense would take over and keep the shut-out as this Greyhound team would never get out of their gate for the race.
This Hawk defense held Boerne to 3 yards per play for the contest as MV had a chance for a safety in the 4th quarter when Bryce Vincent blitzed the Greyhound QB and downed the him on the 1 yard line.
“I saw the quarterback roll out for a pass,” Vincent recounted. “Then I saw the #2 receiver and I just took him down and I was not going to let him slip me like he had done earlier.”
On how this team has improved from a one win year to being the District Champion this campaign.
“We just started bonding together as a group and this year has really helped our inner strength,” Vincent recalled. “It was after the Liberty Hill game that we decided to pull it up and start focusing and listening to our Coaches.”
“I am going to go to a football camp and work on my techniques,” Vincent said with resolve.
Take Vincent and multiply that for a group of young man that have started their middle school years as a group of players having to be encouraged to play as 7th graders to a group of youth that have taken that opportunity and risen to being a Champion.
“Even though they only won one game last year, we knew their was enough talent and heart to win this year,” Coach Amaro finished. “Last year was the first time most of our kids had played football and they had a great learning experience that helped them be successful this year. We are very proud to coach this group of kids.”
This group will be fun to watch!!!
Go Hawks!!
