Softball Finish Navarro Tourney 3-3 after Win over Copperas Cove, 10-2
Canyon Lake rebounded with a 10-2 win over Copperas Cove as the Hawks ended their Huber Ranch Tourney 3-3 for the three day event.
“We hit very well,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We ran the bases and used our speed to our advantage.”
CL jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings which during normal circumstances would have led to warm fuzzies, however after enjoying similar leads in the past 3 days, Canyon Lake had to find a way to finish which happened when Sophomore pitcher Lauren Mentzer allowed the Bulldogs no more than 5 hits without walking a batter.
Alexis Robinson continued her hot bat with 2 triples in the win that knocked in 3 Hawks while, Junior Kat Weber got into an exclusive Sorority with a home run over the right center field fence.

All the other home runs hit by CL have happened by the inside the park variety.
On what she was thinking as she was watching the ball go over the fence, Weber said, “Nothing, this pitcher was slow and I don’t like slow pitchers.”
That 4 bagger came during a 5 run second inning which would give CL enough separation to carry this win to the finish line.
The Hawks hit a balmy .478 for the 4 game stint The ReSporter had a chance to get some stats for this season.
More important was the game Mentzer pitched to get this team back in the win column and stop their short 2 game losing skid.
“I got into a zone and started making my pitches,” Mentzer stated. “Sometimes, ‘Blue’, would move his strike zone and I just needed to shake it off and pitch to his zone.”
That worked like a charm as Mentzer did not walk a batter and only had one bad inning by giving up 2 hits as Cove scored one of their 2 runs.
Another good sign on this sixth game in 3 days was how well the bottom half of the order started hitting and keeping those important innings going.
Tiara Kacir had 3 hits in her 5 at bats and having that kind of day will go a long way in helping CL compete when those important district games start to pile up.
Canyon Lake will now repeat the same scenario when they will host with Wimberley with a chance to play for 3 days in a row as they continue to add games to their resume as district will be rearing that part of the season in the not to distance future.
Go Hawks!!
