Coaches Corner with Volleyball’s Kim Paisley
The ReSporter: What is your take after the first week of games for this group of ladies?
Coach Paisley: “I saw some really great things as far as the growth and the development of team chemistry. We did really well at the team level and I was able to get everyone in and run different combinations of rotations.”
The ReSporter: What are some items you will concentrate on as you start the second week?
Coach Paisley: “Well, after passing all week in practice, that really made a difference in our play at TexFest. We still need to work on fine tuning our serve receive. I feel offensively, on Friday, we got comfortable and were able to expand our options and offensive plays at the net.”
The ReSporter: Watching Laredo United play, it was apparent this team would get to every ball hit, how do you instill that same type of team effort for the Hawks?
Coach Paisley: “I loved the intensity they had on defense, and how they sacrificed their bodies for every ball. Our Hawks will have to want it bad enough in their hearts to fully achieve this same type of intensity, but as a coach, I will enhance the opportunities in practice to make my team more disciplined on defense, so we will be more tenacious on defense.”
The ReSporter: Yes, I know you have a ton of unforced errors so far this year, what do you expect from this team in reducing that number and what is an acceptable number per set? Yes, without mentioning zero.
Coach Paisley: “I feel the unforced errors are coming from lack of experience at the varsity level and having to adjust to the speed of the varsity level competition. The reduction of unforced errors will come from repetition in practice, and in the tournament play the next 2 weeks.”
The ReSporter: How do you see this year’s schedule in preparing the team for district play?
Coach Paisley: “Competing tough teams from traditionally strong programs will help prepare us for district. Our district has tough teams and competition, but will not be as strong as SOME of these teams we face in the preseason. Working hard and competing at a higher level will definitely help prepare us.”
The ReSporter: Thanks Coach and keep up the good work and Go Hawks!!
