CL’s Hawks Beat Akin’s Eagles, 25-16, 25-13, 25-18
Canyon Lake Hawks were stronger than the Akins Eagles as the Home Team won for the first time this year in the Nest.
CL last played at home on August 6th and finally returned home for a game and on this night a win beating the Eagles, 25-16, 25-13, and 25-18.
The win improves Canyon Lake’s record to 18-9 and 5-4 against 6A schools this year.
Akins came out of the chute playing a good set as each team could not get more than a 1 point lead until Regan Mickey started the second rotation with a Hawk, 10-9 lead. The Hawks would score on every service but one for the rest of this set to get the separation needed for a 9 point victory.
The Hawks continue a year that will possibly break every block record CL has mustered since that first game back in 2008.
Leading the way with the Block Party has been the emergence of Anna Bettersworth who from the beginning of the season has had a lot of success at the net.
The Border Patrol might hire Bettersworth away from the Hawks as this young lady would have success in blocking people coming into the country illegally.
“I just know how to play my old game,” Bettersworth said when asked about how she has progressed this season and being on a new team.
Bettersworth finished with 5 blocks and 5 kills in this contest and continues her improvement at the net giving opponents fits in their quest to get a point during volleys.
The Hawks will be enjoying this sweep but there will not be much time to relish the win as Wimberley is their next game this Friday before the football game.
“I hear the student section is intense,” Bettersworth said like a student yet to play our Devil’s Back-Bone friends just north of Canyon Lake. “This game will bring up our intensity a lot.”
Canyon Lake has a 2 game winning streak over the Texans as last year’s Hawks went unbeaten during their run to the first Hawk District Championship season.
Running that streak to 3 games would be a good way to end this week as the Hawks start to whittle down the pre-district schedule in preparation of their district season.
“We are ready for it,” Bettersworth said when asked where this team is at this point of the season in preparation for their new district foes. “Playing these 6A teams will help and prepare us for district.”
Canyon Lake will need all the fans that will be coming to Wimberley as there will be a 2 for 1 deal as you will be able to help two Hawk teams return home with victories over the Texans.
Go Hawks & Beat Wimberley!!
