District 28-4A started with a mild upset when Bandera upended the Boerne Greyhounds, 3-0 last Friday on what was a game that put a dent in Boerne’s chance of repeating as district champion.
Fredericksburg did their job with a win over Hondo which was an expected win based on how each team played in pre-district games.
Canyon Lake had an off day to start district as this past week having an off day in competing against La Vernia.
The Hawks will have to find that intensity button again as that button was nowhere to be found in a resounding sweep at the hands of the Bears.
CL came out with some fire but that was quickly doused much like Smokey the Bear who helped prevent a forest fire in the sweep after that first set and limiting the Hawks with only twigs which was not good enough for momentum and roasting marsh mellows.
All of those games are now history and the Hawks will attempt to do something never done at Canyon Lake——defending a district championship.
Boerne found that they might have a problem with that torch after a loss to Bandera and now CL will go on the road to a mad Greyhound team to attempt a chance of continuing their 13 game district winning streak.
Not as many games in this district go around so having an off day or game could be a hard way to get to that No. 1 seed going into the playoffs.
The Hawks will play at home on Friday when the first ever meeting with the Hondo Owls come to the Hawk Nest.
Bring some glaring lights to the gym and put some sun glasses on these Owls for another run to the playoffs.
Go Hawks!!
