Joseph Boyd led CL with 13 points followed in succession by Tyler Williams (12), Jacob Pistokache (11), and Gerrit Wilkins (10) in this win.

The Hawks shot 52% from the floor in forging the victory after scoring 17 points in the decisive second quarter taking a 1 point first quarter deficit to their margin of victory and a 10 point lead into halftime.

With 18 Hawk steals the Buffaloes could not find enough grass in the Hill Country to graze and this eventual loss.

Tech did increase their 1 point 2nd quarter lead to 3 points which would be the Buffaloes largest lead in the game.

In starting the second stanza both teams had a back and forth volley, until a hot Hawk push going into their halftime locker room.

With 3:16 remaining and a, 19-18 Buffalo lead, CL would outscore Tech 12-1 in that final time span for enough separation in this win.

A 3 pointer from Pistokache with an assist from Williams started the onslaught and lead that CL would have for the remainder of this contest with 2:40 showing before halftime.

“What are we going to do to help my team to win,” Postokache said when responding to what he was thinking as the Hawks needed a spark. “Defense wins games.”

Bennie Brownlee would serve two consecutive assists with the first going to Williams underneath and then another Pistokache 3 pointer with 1:30 left which resulted in a , 26-19 Hawk lead.

After a Buffalo free throw another basket from Williams and then a fast break bucket from Wilkins finished the torrid Hawks rally.

Canyon Lake was not finished as they started the second half like it was ended as Williams and Rory Preiss attacked the basket with scores ballooning their largest lead on this night, 34-20.

Tech would close the 3rd quarter with some rainbow 3 pointers and hustle plays to pull back into a, ’still a chance to win’, chance, 38-33.

Boyd halted the Fox run with a basket going into the final 8 minutes and the Hawks leading, 40-33.

throws and a Brownlee 3 pointer and after a Tech free throw, another Boyd score had CL with a comfortable, 48-36 advantage with 5:10 showing on the clock.

That is when the skies opened up with a 3 point barrage from the stampeding Buffaloes and in a little over 1 minute of play the comfort level for this Hawk team had been disturbed as the Hawk lead had shrunk to a one position game and Canyon Lake holding onto a, 48-45 advantage.

A time-out from CL would allow for Head Coach Luke Chapman with some teaching moments as this Buffalo stampede was getting out of hand.

“We came out focused after our start last week,” Senior Williams started. “This was our first home game and we were ready to fight and our pressure defense helped make them uncomfortable.”

The Hawks came out of that chat with Coach with a better defensive outcome holding Fox Tech without a basket for 3 minutes while CL scored 8 points and the lead back to 11 points, 56-45.

“We were not playing terrible defense before their run,” Head Coach Chapman assessed. “But we responded after the time-out and we executed and had great defensive pressure.”

Canyon Lake would spread out their scoring as the Hawks were led by Wilkins who finished with 5 assists and a Hawk team with 18 assist would give a good indication on how well the offense was clicking to close out this win.

Good signs in several areas for the Hawks as they will next take the hard wood when Llano comes to the town next Tuesday, November 22 starting at 1pm.

Come early and bring your Buffalo Wings for some snacks.
