CL Hawks Take Luling to the Wood Shed in Win, 57-30

Canyon Lake took Luling out to the wood-shed in their win over Eagls after spotting the home team to a 2 point first quarter lead before laying the wood in a, 57-30 victory.
“We started off slow, but really picked it up on the defensive end, which led to steals and easy points,” Head Basketball Coach Lucas Chapman started. “Our defense really carried us as we didn’t shoot the ball real well and turned it over way too much. Like I told them after the game, we have the ability to have a great offensive team if we can limit our turnovers. Overall it was a good win.”
The Hawks controlled every facet of this game as CL even had more turnovers than Luling.

You can get the picture that Canyon Lake won the game as the 2 middle quarters the Hawks out scored Luling, 35-9 which is what was needed as CL beat the Eagles on the Hard Wood.

Rory Preiss rebounded from his 4 point outing against Somerset with a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. That was not all as this senior would amass 8 steals and 5 assists to match up with those impressive numbers.
“Rory had an overall better game than his 32 points contest with Marion,” Coach Chapman said. “He really played great and filled up the stat sheet, especially not playing the entire 4th quarter.”
Jacob Ramirez scored 10 points as he continues to give CL a welcomed 10 points a game since his return from an early season injury.
Coach Chapman would also heap some praise on Ramirez, “It is nice to have another really good shooter, ball-

handler and defender. He just gives us another option on both ends of the floor and helps our depth. Right now we are very deep at the guard spot, which is a luxury. It is nice to have another big-time scoring option.”
Canyon Lake did what was needed in this contest as there are games during the season that you might be matched up with a team that might not have as much talent. In the past, the Hawks, might have struggled with a win. This night CL would almost double the score.
“Yeah, it is nice to thoroughly beat teams that you should,” Coach Chapman continued. “We always talk about playing to a standard and playing to beat the best teams on our schedule. Great teams handily win the games they should.”
Now Canyon Lake will have a 4 game tournament at the Hawk Classic Tournament as they will tip-off against Wimberley this Friday at 12 noon.
Getting a win over the Texans will be a good hurdle to clear as this season continues to mature.
It is suppose to be cold this week-end which would be a good time to get some more wood for a beating.
