BCS Middle School Beats Round Rock, 12-6
The Bracken Middle School settled in for a sound football game stopping the Round Rock Crusaders on several second half scoring chances to preserve the win Thursday at Warrior Stadium, 12-6.
“I’m going to quit while I’m ahead,” Head Coach Steve Dement said slyly. “That was fun, it makes me wish I had coached six-man 33 years ago.”
The game started with a flurry as Daniel Forgione took the opening kick-off in for the score and early lead. The return spanned 62 yards and before the fans could figure if they let the pets out before they left for the game, the Warriors were enjoying a 6-0 lead.
The ReSporter wanted to talk to Mr. Forgione about the run, but the player was so quick that he was gone soon after the game was over. Have we mentioned how quickly he ran the opening touchdown yet?
The laurels for the players did not last long as the Crusaders responded with a 77 yard run and a tied score less that a minute later.
Athletic Director and clock keeper, Coach James Johnson, was about to send someone to the store for more bulbs just in case the scoreboard would have enough lights for the end of the game.
Starting quarterback Sterling Garnett went out early with an injury, giving Brady Beene the chance to shine.
“The game plan was to rotate the quarterbacks anyway,” Coach Dement said.
“We have been practicing hard for it,” Quarterback Beene said commenting on having a quicker entry into the game than originally planned.
Lucky for the Warriors, they still had enough juice to score again, since the start of the game did not resemble anything close to how the game ended.
Logan McDaniel rushed for 90 yards for the game, but a 50 yard run in the second quarter would prove to be all the home team would need for the win.
“I was just trying to look for my lanes,” Running Back McDaniel said. “I just did it (changing directions on the run).
The defense kept denying the visitors a chance to cross the goal line with a stalwart play by Isaiah Johnson.
Early in the second half Round Rock had worked their way to the Warriors 17 yard line, where they were facing third and eight and knocking on the BCS door. Enter Johnson as the only player between the Crusader and the goal line.
Putting this in perspective. The Crusader player was at least twice the size of Johnson, but the good news about measurements is the size of the heart always can make the players equal in size.
“I did not want him to run me over,” tough man Johnson said. “I can do it and I just did not want him to fall on me.”
Some of the fans might have heard Johnson cry out, “Timber!!!!!” as he grabbed the Crusaders feet and watched the graceful fall.
Bracken was too kind, however, as they fumbled six times…losing three giving you a good reason why the Warriors did not record any punts in the game.
Brady Beene was the quarterback when a pass was caught by Tanner Davis, the play was not seen by Beene and he had no idea of what happened.
“I heard a lot of cheering in the stands,” the grass stained Beene gleamed. “I was just hoping I hadn’t thrown another interception.”
The game finished with BCS having more points and with Coach Dement having plenty to work and improve on with practice, practice, practice.
Congrats for the hard fought game and gutting out the win.
