CL Hawks Beat Hondo, 55-45

Canyon Lake (15-12) wins their first road game since the Christmas Break opening a nice, 55-45 present at Hondo this past Tuesday.

“I thought we did good as we grinded out a tough win against a desperate team,” Head Coach Lucas Chapman assessed. “Defensively we really locked in and played well.”

CL held the Owl’s leading scorer to pedestrian numbers helping the Hawks to keep a comfortable lead.

“Our focus was stopping their point guard,” Coach Chapman said. “He averages about 15 points a game, and we held him to 5 point and that came at late in the game.”

Canyon Lake has 15 victories, which is the most games in that category since CL started playing round-ball.

Rory Preiss led the Hawks with 16 points and is now trailing Caleb Kreiger for first place in scoring for a season. Preiss has 362 points and needs 45 more this season to make that record with his name on that line.

Ryner Martin had 9 points helping the Hawks fill in for not having Jacob Ramirez on the floor on this night.

On that same page, Tyler Williams chipped in with 7 points, 8 rebounds, and one in game dunk coming with energy that was lacking during those games right after Christmas.

“Tyler had a really good game,” Chapman admonished. “He protected the rim and rebounded the ball well like he always does.”

Canyon Lake will now have another important game this Friday when the Billies come calling after disposing Bandera by 33 points and still leading the district.

Fredericksburg has an 8-1 road record this season and will be coming to the Hawk Nest brimming with confidence.
