Double Header Soccer Playoffs this Friday at Manor High School
Canyon Lake Soccer teams will be sharing the field this Friday at Manor High School as the Hawks will be going against Salado’s boys and girls teams in the second round of playoffs.
Both Hawk teams won their warm-up scrimmage last week as the CL district drew a bye for the first round of contests.
“The warm-up game went well,” Head Girls Soccer Coach Ryan Tierney said. “We played La Vernia for a 3rd time and had a great result beating them 5-0. Alexa Ramos had 1 goal and 1 assist, Kalani Thorpe scored 2, Chloe 1 goal and 1 assist, and Katie Rio’s with 1 goal and 1 assist.”
Good news from the girls front as this team will certainly need to be ready for a Salado team that
scores in bunches and this will be a tough contest to keep them scoreless.
“It was a feel good game for us,” Coach Tierney continued. “We did everything we needed to do and we look forward to Salado.”
On the boys side, they too, were winners when they took on Lampasas for their tune-up chance.
“Our warm-up game against Lampasas went well,” Head Boys Coach Warren Graham recalled. “We won 5-1, which gave us a boost of confidence…..we’ve taken a couple of days off last week and we are ready to get back at this week.”
The boys did not end their season on a high note which made this warm-up game more of a booster shot going against a formidable opponent in Salado.
“There are a few things we need to work on to be ready to play against Salado,” Coach Warren surmised. “Specifically moving the ball quickly and using play on the edges of the field to spread out Salado’s defense.”
Canyon Lake’s Boys team had a good dose of speed in their last contest against Fredericksburg which will help with their leaning curve this week.
This Boy-Girl doubleheader will start at 5:30pm with the girls going at it with the next playoff bout beginning at 7:30pm.
Salado’s Records Girls Boys 17-4-1 22-2-0
CL will need to be on their ‘A’ game this Friday as their opponent is battled tested and will be
beaming with confidence.
Both Hawk teams have had a solid year record wise and The ReSporter asked both coaches what game was their best and why.
Coach Graham, “I feel like our best game this year was our 1-1 tie with Boerne….that game was a complete team effort. The boys were able to stall Boerne’s movement up the field, which frustrated Boerne. We know that we’ve set many records this year but we are not satisfied and want to see how far we can push the boundaries.”
Coach Tierney, “The best game we’ve played was against Fredericksburg in the first round….great historic win and the girls were really excited about it.”
Both teams should be rested and ready to see if they can keep up with the Salado onslaught.
“The girls are more than ready,” Coach Tierney commented. “It’s been waiting game with a lot of preparation. At this point we are excited and full of anticipation.”
“I think the break helps us get healthy and rejuvenated,” Coach Tierney continued. “But the time off breaks your routine and patterns that have developed and I do not think it will effect us much.”
Those Salado Eagles have a lot of skins on their walls and Canyon Lake just had their wall built just for games like this that has the potential of hanging some memorable contests for the gallery.
Now all you need to know is getting to Manor will be a hard drive in Austin traffic but both teams will be ready as each group has another year where both teams can celebrate together as a school.
Coach Tierney said it best, “I get gratification from watching the girls work together to achieve success…When we are a happy family, that is the best time.”
Let the good times begin this Friday at the Manor ISD Athletic Complex starting at 5:30pm.
Go Hawks and Beat the Eagles!!
