No Hitter by Banks puts Exclamation Points on Win over Hondo, !!-0
The Hawk’s kicked the Owls out of their nest with a resounding no-hit win, 11-0 on Thursday night that kept this young club on the inside track for a, 2nd place District 28-4A finish.
“The girls played a great game with no let down in intensity after a tough loss in Boerne, Head Coach John Gallagher stated. “Maggie Banks pitched a gem backed by some solid defensive plays.”
With a week left in the regular season, Canyon Lake will now set their sights on a game in Fredericksburg on Tuesday. A victory will solidify that 2nd seed for the playoffs as the Hawks will finally get a playoff game on their resume.
It has been 5 years since the Softball contingent was in the playoffs and after a complete game win over Hondo, the Hawks had all parts of their game in sync with no errors, plenty of offense, and a pitching performance that had the visitors getting no hits.
Pitcher, Maggie Banks, had her 2nd win of the year as the Owls were having a hard time seeing the ball while the Hawk offense rushed out of the gate with a 4 run first inning which would be more than enough for this eventual victory.
Banks has been making most of her deposits coming in the later innings and quelling the opposition to keep the game within reach or saving the game for a win.
In district play, Banks carries a 0.85 earned run average with 2 wins and a save.
Carley Dubois scored that first run during the first inning when Bailey Bryan was successful on a squeeze bunt.
The first four CL batters went 8 for 11 and their on-base-percentage was an astonishing .688 percentage, on reaching base.
That pressure took its toll on Hondo while the CL defense had their third game without an error this season.
Taking care of your defense will become more paramount as the season comes to a close and the playoffs looming.
Every aspect of the Hawk’s game will become magnified as you go from regular to playoff season.
Maddy Puente led the Hawks with 3 hits and has extended her hitting streak to 9 games while holding a .441 batting average.
During her hitting streak, Puente has been red hot and has batted .531 while reaching base in 11 consecutive contests.
One of Puente’s hit’s was a double to right-field after the Hondo defense had a defensive shift to the left side of the field. That will go a long way with future teams and knowing what will not work on this freshman.
Another, on fire Hawk, is Marley Carrizales and after two games of being out with an injury has come back to the line-up burning the base paths with a .750 batting average.
This Hawk is threatening, Dubois’ batting average from last year when she topped the charts with a .526 average.
Canyon Lake will be in route to Fredericksburg for another battle on Tuesday and hopefully the Hawk’s will take a larger bus so they can load the defense/offense/pitching components for the trip.
Go Hawks!!
