Sub-Varsity Hawks swept Navarro as the Freshman and Junior Varsity both came off the court with victories.

There are presently 4 Sophomores on the Varsity roster and having the Junior Varsity team winning again is more proof on how solid this Hawk team might be in the future.

The JV Hawks won their first game with the Panthers, 25-19 as CL did not get separation until Laney Heun took the ball and helped rally the Hawks with 6 service points. Jenna Robinson and Peyton Chew both contributed with a kill a piece during this run.

When Heun started the game was tied up 17 all and after the Panthers broke serve, 5 point lead would lead CL to victory.

Adia Garcia is all smiles after a big win over Navarro.

Junior Adia Garcia was instrumental and being joined by a team effort had Canyon Lake with an eventual win.

Navarro would win the second game (21-25) that sent this battle to a deciding winner take all 3rd game.

“Navarro is so scrappy,” Head JV Coach Megan Helmey said. “We were mixing attacks and just keep going…..our passing has been great as our back row is strong.”

“This team from the start of the season to now is just phenomenal,” Coach Helmey closed.

The Panthers struck first in the second game with a quick, 1-3 advantage and then Canyon Lake would tighten the game as the largest lead would be 14-10 in favor of CL.

As the game continued both schools nip and tuck, but the Hawks never lost the lead as Navarro found themselves serving down, 20-19.

A service error gave the Hawks a 2 point advantage that Garcia would help rally with a 3 point serve and the eventual 5 point win, 25-20.

“Experience and timing,” Garcia commented when asked how she had started hitting her stride during this long game. “I want to play up to the varsity and be a leader by setting an example for the younger ladies.”

This game was a good indication on how this team seemed to be getting their game together as the passing and every facet of the game seemed to be coming together.

“I was playing as if we were winning the whole time,” Garcia finished.

Y4 Custom Homes says let’s go Hawks!!

That was a truism as that type of mentality was indeed the case as the Hawks finished by winning as the Junior Varsity would not say quit.

CL’s Freshman squad had a two game sweep winning, 25-12 and 26-24.

On what happened between the first and second game, Head Freshman Coach Tosha Ridgeway commented, “We like to give the fans something to watch….fans will get their money’s worth.”

“This was the first time we had come back to win,” Coach Ridgeway stated as the Hawks were down by 5 points, 17-22 in that second contest and then took no prisoners as they would storm the Panthers and put them in the zoo.

The future is indeed bright for Canyon Lake as the sub-varsity teams both have winning records and look to prove their worth when district starts up at the end of this month.

Go Hawks!!
