This will be the biggest game for Canyon Lake this season as the Hawks go into this game, that will put the winner, on the inside track for a District 28-4A Championship.
Boerne will be a big hurdle for the Hawks to clear as their only common opponent was Wimberley and that had CL losing (20-13) while the Greyhounds won by 13 points (41-28).
The Texans held Canyon Lake to their lowest point output in that game while Boerne scored the most points against Wimberley with 41.
Canyon Lake held the Texans to their lowest point and yardage output for their season as that contest turned out to be a defensive battle.
CL will see their biggest air raid challenge in this affair as the Greyhounds average 260 yards via the airways this year and have twice as many completions than your Hawks have thrown the ball.
QB Brooks Klutts will also be a threat with his running as he ranks 8th in district with 305 yards and 6 touchdowns.
That will give you an idea that Klutts can escape pressure and make positive yardage, if the coverage has the Greyhounds receivers covered.
Ryan Hart is their leading rusher with 428 yards on 53 carries and Colton Pool has 245 yards rushing on a 7 yards per carry average.
Those rushing numbers can be mirrored by how well the Hawks receivers can have good numbers by the pass for the same reason as both teams will primarily run or pass.
Both teams live by the pass (Boerne) or run (Canyon Lake) and that can surprise a defense because those plays are not an every down occurrence.
The Hawks will have to be zeroed in on 3 Greyhound receivers as each one could be the person that will carry them.
Player Receptions Yards Average Touchdowns Douglas Hodo 30 601 20.0 11 Connor Fisher 34 539 15.9 7 Paul Amick 17 393 23.1 5
All good numbers and a threat each play for CL’s defensive backs.
Canyon Lake had the same situation last year when they met Boerne as they were loaded offensively and had a good defense, as this was a solid opponent.
The Hawks came out in that game and ran for more yardage than the Greyhounds had given up for the year up to that point.
CL has more players in the mix this season simply because the Hawks have lost more games to injuries in the backfield than they had last season.
Tristan Chacon has done an admirable job as he presently sits in 2nd place for District 28-4A with 554 yards on the ground and 9 touchdowns.
Tanner Faris has played in 4 games and has 422 yards rushing with Micah St. John next in line with 354 yards on the ground.
The biggest positive from CL’s runners is committing only 2 lost fumbles and all their main rushers with a 6 yards per carry or more.
Those two fumbles came in one quarter on back to back possessions in the game with Giddings.
Canyon Lake can win this game if they can establish their rushing game and chew up clock time while the Hawk defense coming up with turnover or getting one or two stops. That will be the keys for a win.
CL’s passing can be lethal as they’re presently 3 players with 100 or more yards receiving.
Player Receptions Yards Average Touchdowns Tanner Faris 6 197 32.8 4 J. T. Greene 11 153 13.9 1 Tristan Chacon 5 144 28.8 1
Letting QB Ben Fulton time for passing and opening holes for the rushers will be a huge step in the right direction.
Winning the trenches will be a must for a win and a chance to continue a Hawk drive through district.
Should be a good game and if you cannot make this game or if you want to listen while watching the game, then Canyon Lake Broadcasting will be starting with their Pre/Game Show at 6:15pm.
Go Hawks!!
