There have been some schools during the last 10 years that have had the Hawk’s number when it is time to play football.
Blanco comes to mind as this smaller school ran off a 3 game winning streak, but the last two years CL has tied that series after winning the past two years.
A Duck is a scary bird for Canyon Lake as that school is working on making it 4 in a row if they win this year. This is a game that has weird things happening as Canyon Lake has had a lead the past 3 years. The Hawks have found ways to blow the game each time out.
Well, Fredericksburg has been a team your Hawks have had the most success playing as this series will reach the 10th year with CL having 7 wins and holding a 3 winning streak.
That first year, when the Hawks had no seniors playing, you could throw that contest in the dumpster and Canyon Lake would really have a number on those Billies.
The difference between Fredericksburg and Taylor is how close those affairs have been while many of CL’s meetings with the Billies have been convincing.
Fredericksburg’s record this time around is 5-2 and they have been playing a solid game on both sides of the ball.
Year Record for Billies entering Hawk week. Result
2017 Fredericksburg 5-2 ???
2016 Fredericksburg 3-4 Won
2015 Fredericksburg 5-2 Won
2014 Fredericksburg 4-3 Won
2013 Fredericksburg 4-1 Lost
2012 Fredericksburg 3-2 Won
2011 Fredericksburg 3-5 Won
2010 Fredericksburg 1-7 Won
2009 Fredericksburg 2-6 Won
2008 Fredericksburg 3-5 Lost
This year’s Billies have weapons on both sides of the ball while fielding a decent defense.
Will Flannery, will be taking the snaps and and thus far has 1112 yards through the air.
Sean Majors is Flannery’s major target with 21 receptions for 461 yards. There is also a brother to brother combination as Don Flannery has 233 yards and Tristan Sanchez has compiled 177 of Fredericksburg’s passing yardage.
Will Sebera and Hobbs Price has been the main contributors on the ground as both runners are presently over 400 yards in that category.
The Billies have two more runners that might see significant times with the ball as Sanchez has 281 yards and Brant Bowers comes in with 202 for the year.
A lot of offensive weapons for CL’s opponent as the Hawk defense as a whole will need to be locked in to keep this offensive unit in check.
Fredericksburg ranks first in District 14-4A with 44.6 points and has a 476 yards per game average. The Billies have many ways of advancing the ball while their defense is giving up just 18.7 points per game this year.
Canyon Lake is coming off a big win after taking care of Boerne last week. That will be an important element as this Billie team will be just as dangerous and if the Hawks are not set then this could be a long night.
Fredericksburg took Wimberley to overtime before coming out on the short end, but those games will let you know that this game will have a good entertainment value.
It will be Senior Night for the players as they take the field for their last time, they have much to be proud of, Go Hawks and thanks Seniors!!
