Luling JV Fail English Class to CLJV, 40-20

The Canyon Lake JV team has reached the five win plateau for the season

Dominic Theisz

streaking to a 34-0 lead by the third quarter in a route over the Luling Eagle JV team.

The Hawks wasted little time when they started on their 36 yard line for their first drive.

An incomplete pass and then the Eagles got a dose of Theisz for their thesis in English class.

Dominic Theisz carved the Eagles with three runs totaling 64 yards in just 30 seconds. Runs of 34, 23, and 11 yards had the Hawks with a 7-0 lead after an Austin Denton extra point.

“The offensive line was blocking very good tonight,” Running back Theisz said. “I worked hard in the ‘Speed and Conditioning Camp’ this Summer. I wanted to start and do good in setting my goals.”

That is an understatement for Thiesz…the goal I think he has set is the goal line.

The next scoring drive? Karl Weidner was the runner for 13 yards with a scoring strike to Andrew Riali from QB Connor Ricker on the first play of the second quarter.

After the Hawk defense shut down Luling, the offense took one play with another Theiszes. This one  was from 40 yards out.

“They weren’t as fast and their offense does not cut as much,” Linebacker Daniel Reed said after responding to how similar the Luling offense is to Navarro. “We take pride and honor and we don’t want to be the first team to lose.”

The Eagles complained because they thought they had downed Theisz, thinking the game was one below instead of two below.

Covering the Bracken Christian six-man football team…this game looked very familiar for the outmatched friends from the east.

Junior Lee Power plays both sides of the ball very hard. Power runs fullback and plays linebacker on the defensive side of the ball.

“I love playing offense,” Power said with power. “I love the contact.

Power is also in his first year at CL and said, “We have a strong family here, even though I’m the new guy, I got accepted as soon as I got here.”

The first half stats told the story for this game:
Luling Eagles            Canyon Lake Hawks
Total yards?    58              191
Rushing?        52              117
Passing?         6               74

The second half had more of the same, as the defense held the Eagles to minus one yard and a punt.

The Hawks set up shop on the 24 yard line.

Two runs from the third Theiszes, the first covered 13 yards and then scoring from eleven yards, put the game out of reach for all intense and purposes, as the Hawks enjoyed a 28-0 lead.

Another stop by the defense gave the CLJV the ball on their 42 yard line. This time a great catch and run by wide receiver Austin Annestrand for 48 yards had the Hawks on the Eagles’ 10 yard line, where a steady dose of running back Weidner had the score board needing more lights after thee plays for the 34-0 score.

“We have hard practices every day,” Defensive back Asher Ledford said. “Coach Means is intense and is a great coach. I feel like he is my father in football in how he teaches me coverages.”

Luling to their credit did not go away into the night, as Malik Hawkins took the kick-off at his 10 yard line and raced down the left sideline to the end zone for the first Eagle score.

Later in the fourth quarter the Eagles staged a 12 play 54 yard drive to bring the score to 34-12. And then a fumble on the kick-off by the Hawks allowed Luling to have a short field again.

This time the Luling score from a 28 yard drive had the game looking eventful, 34-20.

The Hawks then did what they had done for most of the game…another Theiszes homework assignment by the English teacher for the Luling Eagles.

This time the Luling Eagles were late on all their needed requirements for the paper and Dominic Theisz graded the paper very harshly.

After running for 34 yards on his first two plays the elusive running back had a touchdown called back after another 31 yard run.

The substitute teacher by the name of Andrew Riali finished the grading with a pass from Ricker from 37 yards on the next play putting the final touches on the game, 40-20.

“This is a different year than our team last year,” Twins Javier and Isaac Mendez interjected.

“It takes a lot of heart and we are wanting to shake it up in practices and how all the coaches have helped us,” Defensive end Erik Ibarra closed.

The Luling JV squad might have to repeat another year, especially if they want to go to school at Canyon Lake.
