CLJV Girls Basketball Beat Wimberley, 34-28

This year’s Girl’s JV Team was short handed but they could still wreak havoc in their win over Wimberley on Tuesday night, 34-28.

Way to take care of Wimberley!

CL was in control from the get-go as the Hawks rushed out to an 8 point lead after the first quarter. That same intensity continued through the next stanza as Canyon Lake increased their lead 3 more points.

Sophia Barber scored 8 of her team high 12 points in that first half, to help push this game, into the win column.

The Hawks had to hold off a furious comeback by the Texan’s but some critical points scored in the the second half was just enough to win the contest.

Canyon Lake’s 11 point lead was last seen in the 3rd quarter with the Hawks up 24-13 after a smooth Emily Geist lay up as this young lady was all the offense that CL would muster in that part of the game.

Madison Churbe and Geist would lead the Hawks with 7 steals each that helped keep Wimberley just far enough away for the eventual victory.

Wimberley clawed back to a 2 point deficit, 29-27 with 3 minutes to play then Canyon Lake would respond with a nice pass from Geist to Barber for a 4 point lead.

The Texan’s would score their last point via a free throw before Emily Boylan sealed the deal with a nice 3-pointer that helped to finish the game.
