Says Go HawksThe Hawks would have two players in double figures when Reagan Heun took 13 points to the bench for a 4th quarter rest and Alexa Ramos finished with 11 points all in that 2nd half of play.

Sophomore Caroline Kullberg would have her first double in rebounds with 10 for the evening.

“We had to work through a box and one defense,” Head Coach Zach Burleson deduced. “We had not practiced against that defense and made our adjustments during half-time.”

Heun was the marked player for the Bulldogs and CL used Ramos to help break down Somerset’s game with a solid second stanza to counteract that strategy. Canyon Lake would also have one of their best games from the charity stripe, as Ramos-Melendez-Heun hit all but one free throw a piece while Marley Carrizales made both of her free shots.

“Yeah, Coach (Burleson) has me shooting 50 free throws in each practice,” Ramos said matter 0f factly. (catch more of Ramos and Char Hutson in their YouTube interview below the Box Score)

CL reached a high water mark with 5 blocked shots fore the season, as this game was over quickly with 13 points in that 1st quarter and a 9 point lead. Defense was suffocating for the Hawks and that opened up the offense for much of this game.

Alayna-Gayle says way to Go Lady Hawks!!

Canyon Lake kept the pressure through-out the first 3 quarters as the lead would reach 26 points, 36-10. CL had 8 players to play as Chelsea Tschoepe is still recouping from an injury in the Crockett Trounament last week.

Kullberg was back in action for this contest and she showed a lot of energy with her 10 rebound night.

Where Canyon Lake would take this game, was having all of the players scoring and not with just 2 points but scoring in the 4-8 point range. That is a good sign for a young group of players that has a good crew of Seniors that are supplying  leadership.

Several good keys to this contest,  as CL can see how much better they will be,  if their free throw shooting continues like this night’s game. An active evening and a run away win that allowed the Hawks to rest the starters for another game in less than 24 hours as a 10am game time on Tuesday at the Hawk Nest is next.

Boerne Champion will be in town as the 9-2 Hawks will work on making more strides to become a good basketball team.
