CL Lady Hawks Take Care of the Travis Rebels, 58-14

Coaching is teaching as Hawk’s Beat the Travis Rebels.

Canyon Lake Lady Basketball will be going into their next battle against Navarro with a 7 game winning streak after disposing of Austin Travis, 58-14 on Friday night at the Hawk Nest.

Alexa Ramos turned her defense into points scoring 14 in win over Travis

During this victory streak, the Hawks, have not been playing many stalwart opponents but then a question that would be needed is, “How good should your wins have to be to convince a casual fan that a team might be good?”

That question will be answered this next Tuesday when the 17th Ranked Hawks welcome the 14th Ranked Navarro Panthers to The Nest.

CL needs just one more win to match the all-time best win total from that 2009-10 team who finished their season with 19 conquests and still being the only Hawk team with a winning district record to date.

In this contest, the Rebels were in need of oxygen from the outset as your Hawks jumped out of the chute scoring the first 9 points before a Travis free throw. Then CL would open that score with 20 more points before Austin Travis would score again with another made free throw, 29-2.

“We just need to have a ton of reps,” Head Basketball Coach Zach Burleson deduced. “For the last two weeks we have tried to work on different things.”

Coach Burleson would be a good card player as he keeps all of his cards close to his vest in not letting anyone see what type of hand he might have.

The Hit Man says Go Hawks!!

Coach Burleson has been using game competition for important times of learning the intricacies when an adversary foe comes, that might be able to find the rim.

CL’s largest lead ballooned up into that final period with a 44 point win, as two Hawks were able to tie Austin Travis’ final total of 14 points. Reagan Heun matched the visitor’s point total with 14 for her 11th double figure scoring in a row. Fellow Senior, Alexa Ramos had a remarkable 7 for 7 from the field matching Heun’s total for this evening.

“We are working on new offenses,” Senior Ramos reiterated much like her Coach. “We need to work on our inbounds and all the different aspects of our game before district starts.

Other leaders came to the forefront as Chelsea Tschoepe dished out 6 assists to go along with her 7 steals. Not a bad evening and for good measure a solid 8 rebounds made this night special.

         Way to go Lady Hawks!

Two more Sophomores led the team with rebounds when Caroline Kullberg and Jessie Melendez both finished with 10 boards a piece. Stack all 3 of those Sophomore stats and you would total 28 rebounds.

This Hawk team will still need to show some improvement from the charity stripe and behind the arc as there will be future teams that can turn those shortcomings into their favor.

Now the real show will come to town next Tuesday when Navarro shows up and the Hawks will have an idea of where their team might stand against tougher teams.

“As long as we start with intensity and set-up our offense and set our pace throughout the game then we can play with anybody,” Ramos closed.

Go Hawks and get the Panthers!!
