One Semester Down & One to Go for Hawks Sports
Canyon Lake had a successful first half of the year with CL’s Football team taking the next step with a 2nd round win during the playoffs that had this team playing on the first day of December which is a big step for the Hawks.
The Hawks won District 14-4A which was a first and with that goal this crew got to double digit wins and an 8 game winning streak to boot.
Canyon Lake’s offensive side of the ball racked up a lot of rushing yards which led to a passing game that was at it’s peak when used. For every pass completion, CL scored once every 3rd pass was caught. That is vintage Slot-T football and having a bus load of Seniors helped in carving out more space in the trophy case as the year came to a close.
That Hawks Defense was the unsung entity, as this part of the game had one of their best year’s in keeping opposing teams on the sideline as every facet performed at a level that led to those 10 wins.
How the offense and defense performed in comparison to the previous 9 seasons.
Volleyball continues their consistent climb to respectability, this group of ladies have had 4 consecutive years of finishing in the top 2 during district play. The first Hawk team with a District Crown 3 seasons ago and now the last two campaigns, finishing 2nd behind Fredericksburg.
Hawk Volleyball has the best team record of any CL team sport and continue to stack a lot of schools on the, ‘we were beat by Canyon Lake’ pile.
This was the second year in a row, that the Hawks had the opportunity to send Wimberley home after a first round conquest for this school that has more trophies than they can count in their Volleyball showcase.
These last 4 years has CL with a winning overall district record which is a first for Hawk team sports.

Canyon Lake has a 16-4 record against 5A schools in Coach Kim Paisley’s tenure at Canyon Lake. A 24-16 record when playing 6A schools.
That gives you an idea of how well Volleyball has performed in the past 5 years.
“Our Volleyball program is where it is because we have high standards and expectations and we, as coaches, are consistent in the instilling and carrying out of these expectations from year to year,” Head Volleyball Coach Paisley reflected. “The girls believe and know what this program is about and what we stand for.”
Consistency is a top of the list word for Coach Paisley as she also responded to where this future group of ladies will be when next August comes calling.
“We have had great group’s of girls that come through and a big senior class each year,” Coach Paisley said. “We are highly competitive each year and we have goals that we set out for. We are looking forward to another fun and competitive season with our returners and some strong additions to our varsity team and overall program.”
This year’s Cross Country group has been running uphill the past couple of seasons as this present group of district opponents has been loaded with some great athletes which will have CL getting a late start when the gun sounds to start a race.
Hopefully those athletes will be able to come through when Track Season gets started this Spring.
CL’s two basketball teams have changed places from last year as the Hawk Girls are on a record setting season while the Boy’s are reverting to previous teams as they had their best season during last year’s campaign.
The Boys started their year with a team that was missing players for an extra two weeks when CL’s football team played into December time. That has this year’s version still trying to find Chemistry Class as the games are still working on having a game go from start to finish in sync. There has been moments but not a consistent team at this writing.
There is some good news in that you only have to beat one team in district to have another shot during playoffs and the bad news comes from 4 District 28-4A teams that sport winning records going into the New Year.
The Standings below give you an indication on what is looking like a group of teams who are all winning while CL is presently on a losing streak at during the mid-season contests.
Meanwhile, the Hawk Ladies, are going into their Comfort Tournament with a record that was just a dream is season’s past. A good mix of Seniors with a Sophomore class that keeps improving with each passing game.
Reagan Heun is setting her sights on a final year that could be special. Alexa Ramos is putting together another year of steals and defense that has a chance of seeing the Lady Hawks opening presents well after the Christmas Season is just distant memories.
Canyon Lake, has passed the 2010’s team victory record of 20 wins while the players will be sporting masks to handle the rarefied air as they continue their climb into a year of playing games where wins keep piling up and having their sights on getting more lumber in constructing a larger trophy case.
One of Hondo’s losses was to CL earlier this year and that win will bode well when district starts up in January. As that win, no matter how long ago it took place, will instill confidence in a team that has not had a lot of victories these past few years.
Other Hawk Sports will be getting ready to go as the New Year comes calling.
Soccer will have a Girls team that might surprise people like the Boy’s Soccer team did last year.
The Boy’s Soccer team should have some new found confidence after last season’s campaign even with the losses after graduating senior walked across the stage.
Those Lady Hawk Soccer players will be blessed with a lot of Seniors this time around and seeing how this year plays out will be a something to watch for.
Softball will see if this year’s group will be able to find that right combinations to have another playoff campaign.
While Hawk Baseball will start their season with a new coach as they will try to turn-a-round results that have not had many high water marks in the past few seasons.
Track & Field should have a shot at giving Fredericksburg a run this year as the Girls Team is loaded with young and old athletes and will have their best depth ever. That is a key ingredient in realizing any chance of winning a district title.
The same with the Boy’s Track as they too, will add some depth in trying to get in position for finishing with higher aspirations.
Good times ahead as the Fall Season brought another District Championship and what will hopefully be more when the curtain comes comes to a close in May.
Go Hawks!!
