Canyon Lake did what they do best and held the Gonzales Apaches to 20 points and their Bi-District conquest, 43-20.

The 3rd time was a charm as CL’s Lady Basketball team ventured into their third chance in having a playoff contest and this time coming away with a 23 point win and a date later this week against the Sealy Tigers.

Hit Man says Way to Go Hawks!!

Head Coach Zach Burleson talked about the Hawk defense after the game, “It travels….we need to be intense defensively and take care of the ball. Offense will not travel.”

Coach Burleson commented on how a team’s offense will not always be there during a season, but a defense can be your mainstay.

Reagan Heun posted a double/double in this victory with 13 points and 11 rebounds and fellow teammate, Alexa Ramos, gave her Senior Partner some company reaching 10 points. Ramos is now just one point away of securing the 2nd All-Time Leading Scorer for a career record.

Heun keeps adding to her leading number with 1306 tallies now, while Katie Williams, is still holding down that 2nd place, but with another game for Ramos, Williams is in danger of taking up residence in 3rd place.

                  1) Reagan Heun 1306
                  2) Katie Williams 755
                  3) Alexa Ramos 754
                  4) Tiffany Tschoepe 515
                  5) Ashley Pfaff 493

Defense was the ointment that played into another win that now has Canyon Lake with 30 wins and 6 losses this season. To put this win total in perspective, by doubling victories in each season since CL has been playing basketball, there would be just two seasons that would have more than the 30 plateau your Hawks have attained with their conquest of Gonzales.

Alexa Ramos shooting around tall trees in scoring 10 points.

“It is a special number,” Coach Burleson said when asked about reaching the 30 win mark. “You just don’t think about it when the season starts and getting to that number of wins is a rarity.”

This has become another Hawk team sport that has a chance to pass the .500 mark next season with another decent campaign . CL’s, All-Time Record now stands with 127 wins and 138 losses.<

The Hawks started this contest methodically and the Apaches had tied the score at 7 a piece when Canyon Lake started to achieve some separation. CL outscored Gonzales 16-7 in the next 9 minutes of play and a halftime lead, 19-10 would balloon to a 31-16 advantage entering the final period.<

Gonzales did not achieve a 10 point quarter on the night and were held to a maximum of 7 points during the first period of play. The Hawks had a 23 point lead three times and that was the difference when the final horn sounded to end this game.

The Hawk defense forced 16 turnovers and countless Apache possessions had a ball tipped causing disruption in their offensive flow. Canyon Lake has feasted on this type of game all year long and Gonzales would be their 28th foe to score below that 40 point threshold.

Keep Going Hawks!!

Gonzales had a Sophomore Center, Devon Williams, that towered over the Hawks while Williams would alter several CL chances on their offensive side of the court.  During that second half, Ramos was in the paint after a missed Hawk field goal try and pulled down a rebound and then gathered herself for a shot and two points among those giants.

That typified how determined Canyon Lake would be as this game would be dominated in grand fashion for their first victory during the playoff season when it becomes a win or go home atmosphere.

Now, Canyon Lake will have a date this Friday in Smithville and a meeting playing Sealy with a chance to go another round when the season becomes fun.

Congrats Hawks!!
