Baseball: Hawks Can’t Finish in Loss to Boerne, 12-2
Canyon Lake started their District 28-4A season with a loss as the Greyhounds scored 7 runs in their bottom of the 6th inning to run rule the Hawks, 12-2.
Avery Montgomery will have more chances as District gets started.
“We have to learn to finish games,” Head Coach Victor Escamilla said. “We were in it till the sixth inning when their lead off got on, on a throwing error….Good teams will make you pay if you give them extra outs.”
Yes, Boerne is a good team as the Greyhounds are ranked in the State and are tied with Fredericksburg at the top of the district race.
CL had a brief lead scoring a run during the 2nd inning with a one-out single by Avery Montgomery was scored off the bat with the 3rd hit in this inning would score courtesy runner Greyson Lee.
Brandon Robinson had a multi extra base game with a double to move Lee into scoring position and a Hawk, 1-0 lead.
Boerne would answer scoring 4 runs in the bottom of that same inning and that would give the Greyhounds a lead that would last for the game.
Canyon Lake did make things interesting when they would score another run the next frame when Lee Stafford would start with a single to right field.

Courtesy runner, Ethan Slater would score with a single by Drew Tyra and bring that Boerne lead to 2 runs, 4-2.
Montgomery kept this contest within reach but just could not hold on as the Hawks would not be able to close the gap before that 7 run sixth inning.
Robinson and Tyra continue to swing hot bats, in the last two games, these two have had 10 hits on 14 plate appearances.

“Avery Montgomery pitched as good as he has pitched all year,” Coach Escamilla surmised. “We will learn from out mistakes and we will improve.”
Canyon Lake has reached 8 wins so far this season and still have many more innings to play and stage a chance for making the playoffs.
Boerne will be at the Hawk Nest this Tuesday as CL will take another stab of upsetting this Greyhound club.
