Lady Hawks Keep Cinders Hot at Texan Relays
Canyon Lake’s Girls Track Team saw upgraded competition in the Texan Relays this past Thursday but there was a lot of excitement as CL had more personal bests and a good showing overall on Thursday as the JV finished with 140 points with a 2nd place finish and CL’s Varsity scored 106 points and a 4th place finish overall.
The Hawk Relays were one month earlier than this past week’s competition in Wimberley and you can see the improvement in comparison to Wimberley. Take into account that there were some different schools in the mix but still a good barometer for how well this group of ladies have turned up there times and standings.

There were some good signs as Canyon Lake prepares for District 28-4A in three weeks.
CL’s 4×200 Varsity Relay marked the best time in district when they brought their previous best more than 4 seconds. The JV 4×200 foursome had a good enough time that they would be better than two of the Varsity Schools in Canyon Lake’s district.
Head Coach John Barthels is like a mad scientist as he works with all the results and trying to move the ladies in the best position that would give CL the best chance of topping Fredericksburg.
Other good signs was in the High Jump when Skylar Hurst had her personal best jumping 5 feet. Landry Brown pulled off that same result competing with the Junior Varsity finishing first in that division. This gives Canyon Lake 3 ladies that have hit the 5 foot barrier this year as Hurst and Brown joined Anna Bettersworth who has made the 5-02 mark earlier this season.
Having Adia Garcia and Jade Lawless having good seasons in the Discus event can also prove to be a good omen as both of these ladies throwing over the 100 mark and just feet away from Kaelin Simmons who has the all-time record and finished her career competing in Track at Corpus Christi.
Speaking of taking 1st Place on the All-Time Hawks list, had Alyssa Strickland breaking Jessica Cunningham’s 100 meter hurdles record 15.48 set back during the 2010 season. Strickland has now set a new low with a 15.40 hurdle dash.
Skylar Hurst led all scorers with 34.5 points scoring in 5 events she competed. Hurst had her best 400 meter dash this year breaking the 60 second barrier and was part of the foursome that had a season best in the 4×200 relay. Hurst had two 2nd place finishes with her Triple Jump and High Jump mentioned earlier.
Landry Brown topped the JV with 32 points and Madison Blackburn was close behind scoring 28 points on the day. Brown scored in all 5 events and Blackburn got her total in 4 events with 2 first place finishes.
Canyon Lake will be in action this coming Thursday when the close out their pre-district meets in Lockhart Lion Relays.
Way to Go Hawks!!
