Canyon Lake’s Baseball crew lost a heartbreaking game with Hondo at the Hawk Nest in extra innings, 5-2.

May 5th Don’t Miss Crawfish Boil Hawk Fundraiser.

Both pitchers were locked down for most of this contest as CL’s Ace, Avery Montgomery went to battle against Hondo’s Hernandez for the majority of this contest.

Montgomery had his usual game with just 99 pitches and 70% of those offers being strikes. There were two walks but one of those free passes was intentional.

Canyon Lake missed out on some scoring opportunities with some base path mistakes and in a game that the two teams are evenly matched, those errors will swing the pendulum in favor for that other team in the other dugout.

That was the case on this night as both teams were fighting for a 3rd seed when the post season gets into gear.

Drew Tyra had two hits while driving in both of The Lake’s runs.

CL went into their final inning in regulation needing one run to tie or two to win. Lee Stafford answered the call with a one-out single.

       Get’em next time Hawks!

Tanner Sellers was up next with a pinch-hit single giving the Hawks their winning run on base. Brandon Robinson had a fielder’s choice grounder that left two on the corners with two outs and the tying run 90 feet away.

Mason Lee was hit by a pitch loading the bases and now CL’s hottest hitter coming to bat. Tyra came through with a one pitch single to center field scoring a run but the throw by Hondo’s centerfielder was relayed to home plate stopping a chance for the win.

Hondo would not take long with their response starting their next frame with two singles and a sacrifice bunt that would instigate an intentional pass loading the bases.

A fielder’s choice would give the lead back to the Owls and then a single plated two more insurance tallies for that final score, 5-2.

          Keep Going Hawks!!

Canyon Lake was at the brink of inching up the food chain with a 3rd place District 28-4A finish. That was an impossible thought when this year was revving a couple of months ago.

A bigger picture has still been accomplished with a 4th place finish and a chance to make noise playing in this year’s post-season.

The Hawks will take to the road this coming Tuesday to Fredericksburg before ending their regular season at home against Bandera this Friday.

Way to Go Hawks!!
