Seeded Game is Fruitless, in Hawks Loss to Billies, 10-0

Canyon Lake could not get their win that was needed for playing a lower seeded first round opponent after Monday night’s loss to Fredericksburg, 10-0.

Come out and Support Hawks on May 5th!!

This seeded game did not bear any fruit as the Hawks inconsistent play led to weak bats and pitching that was not at it’s best.

Fredericksburg looked good in this win and CL will see if they can arise from the ashes this Thursday when they will open post-season play in New Braunfels in a contest with Navarro starting at 6:30pm.

“They (Billies) came out and their offense was better,” Head Coach John Gallagher said. “We gave up big hits and our offense got stymied.”

Stating the obvious, as the Billies have now taken CL to the woodshed on their last two battles and it was over after another, long…….long…..long at bat for Freddie after sending 14 players to the plate in that 8 run 3rd inning.

CL’s first out came from a pick-off throw to 3rd base as Kay Puente caught a lethargic Billie strolling back to base when the tag was administered. That out came after Fredericksburg had their first 6 players staring this frame with hits.

Kay Puente helped stave off more damage by catching two more opposing runners with pick-off moves during this contest. That helped the defense and pitchers not having to face more lethal bats from this Fredericksburg crew.

     Keeping Going Strong Hawks!!

Canyon Lake had just two errors but it only took one of those dastardly plays that helped add those final runs in that long third inning.

Jessie Melendez was one bright spot with a bat accumulating 2 hits as CL had just 5 hits for the game.

Now Canyon Lake will need to go back to work as there will be just 2 days of practice before facing an always tough school in the Panthers.

Yes, the Hawks won their earlier game this year against Navarro, but those games are meaningless during this time of the season as each school will need to be prepared each time they take the field.

Thursday will start this best-of-three match and then another battle on Saturday. If there is a split after those first two Bi-District battles then that deciding game will follow.

Canyon Lake has yet to win a Bi-District contest in their previous two play-off runs and will need to be ready when they take on the Panthers to help bring another, First, for the Hawk Nation.

Go Hawks!!!
