Lady Hawk’s Track & Field Showed Off this Season!

Canyon Lake Lady Hawks had a Track & Field Season that was so far ahead of previous years that they lapped their previous campaigns like an athlete would lap those lesser competitors on long distance events.
It is ironic that long distance events would be the only event CL does not excel at in some capacity.
This year’s Hawks would win more Meets than they had amassed since the school started 10 years ago.

Three first place varsity finishes and a wave for future Hawks having their Junior Varsity with 2 first place mantles, four 2nd place and just one 3rd place finish. That lowly day was the first meet of this year.
“The girls have had an amazing year,” Head Track & Field Coach John Barthels stated. “I am very proud of their efforts and we will be missing our seniors. It is not the fact that we are losing 60-75 points a meet because their career is over, it is because they are great kids that bust their tails everyday. They will be missed greatly and I know they have taught the younger girls a great work ethic and enthusiasm, they did Great!”
Those Seniors will certainly be missed as this has been stated before, but Track is a sport that many of your good athletes have mailed in not wanting to compete after finishing an earlier sport in their last school year.
That notion was bucked by Anna Bettersworth when she would dust off the cobwebs and have a good year with the high jump.

Two Seniors that were prominent when they reached the cinders for their Freshman year will have marks that might be untouchable for years to come.
Skylar Hurst and Alysha Perez headed this Senior brigade and went bonkers each year of competition for Canyon Lake. They both were active in other sports with Basketball (Hurst) and Volleyball (Perez) where they both excelled in those arena.
Add another sport that finished 2nd in the State of Texas with the Cheer Squad and that would have these young ladies a well deserved reason in taking a day off when their Canyon Lake career finishes in a couple of weeks.

CL’s Region Meet did not have the type of finish the Hawk Nation was expecting but that still does not take away from their PR’s that were abundant as each Track Meet would present itself for these young ladies.
Jade Lawless had her highest finish in throwing the discus and just missed a chance of having a chance to continue in Austin after a 4th place finish and a throw of, 107-02.00. That placed her 2nd on the All-Time list.
Landry Brown who had just made a move to the Varsity for the District Meet would score 2 points in the High Jump and will be poised to raise a bar for future years.
What a year to be a Hawk and this Team was every bit a part of this top of the heap season, for the Hawks!!
