MVMS Baseball: Grand Slam Wins Hawk’s Contest over SVMS, 7-5

First Baseman Jordan Hill has Grand Slam in win over Smithson Valley Middle School.

The Mountain Valley Hawks split two games on Saturday starting off with a 7-5 win over Smithson Valley.

     Way to Go Hawks, Congrats.

That win had significant movements that could give this Hawk team momentum going into that last part of their season.

A comeback win is one of those accomplishments and how this victory was put into motion was poignant too.

Loading the bases with a walk and two batters, that were hit by pitch, would set the stage for a first for Mountain Valley Baseball.

Thinking about all the firsts that were reached for Canyon Lake High School would certainly sweep the MV Hawks into that same wave after this win. The CLHS Baseball crew made room for a Bi-District Finalist award for their Trophy Case which would be one of many of those 1st Time & Never Happened before years for this School.

This first time, ever, would be introduced by that next Hawk batter when Jordan Hill entered into the batter’s box.

Jeremy Greene and Kolten Ramey had taken a pitch, to their body, in reaching base that would load the bases without a base hit to hang their hat on.

Then it happened, a Grand Slam, off the bat of Hill over the left-field fence giving MV the lead and eventual win against their friends on the South side of The Lake.

“That was the first time I have ever seen that,” Head Coach and Assistant Coaches Ray Amaro and Brandon Burger both said in responding to a question posing if they had ever seen a middle school player hit a ball over the fence. “He (Hill) is a big boy and he has got power and he got it all and the wind was just the icing on the cake, Coach Amaro said.”

Yes, the wind was blowing from the South, but both Coaches were sure the ball would have been gone with or without that help.

“We were getting base runners and we were just wanting him (Hill) to put the ball in play and not right at them,” Coach Amaro recalled. “If you can do that, then good things will happen…this was a big win as we are playing in a tough district.”

   Go Mountain Valley Hawks!!

That was putting it lightly when compared to playing teams that feed into 6A schools versus a 4A Canyon Lake HS. “Those teams have a lot of players that play select ball which gives them 9 solid players….we do not have that many on our team that plays on select teams.”

Mountain Valley would not be able to keep that momentum for their 2nd contest with Canyon Middle School, but that 4-1 loss was tight throughout this contest.

Hill was matter of fact with his remembrance of his homer in that first game, “I was just trying to get a hit over the third baseman’s head and it not only went over his head but over the fence,”

On what he was thinking after he hit the ball, “I didn’t think I hit it that far and thought it was going to be caught, but as I was running to first base, Coach (Burger) just raised his hands and I knew it was going far…..It was unexpected.”

That was a first for sure and this home-run would empty the bases and be the winning hit for MV’s second win of this season.

Mountain Valley will be back at the Hawk Diamond this coming Thursday when they face Smithson Valley with that first pitch coming at 6pm.

This Hawk team will go to battle in hopes for another victory in search for more, first timers!!

Go Hawks!!
