Boy’s Basketball is Next for #13 on Countdown after Win over Wimberley, 48-46
Canyon Lake Boy’s Basketball squad were wanting a more rewarding season, but they will certainly hang their hat on beating Wimberley 2 out of 3 games this year and making the playoffs for their 3rd consecutive season.
The Lake had some rough parts in their season and having the football team advancing further did hamper some of the ‘bigs’ from arriving earlier for reinforcement during that early part of those games.
There was a lot of Seniors that departed from a team that raised the bar to heights not seen since the school started 10 years ago. So, the expectations had risen too and CL had a Junior Varsity group that had excelled during that same time period.
Beating Wimberley in Basketball had not been a common occurrence since the Hawks started bouncing a ball on the hard court.
CL had won an earlier contest with the Texans’ during an earlier tournament but that same football problem that Canyon Lake experienced would be situation that Wimberley would be facing too. The Texans’ football season went a tad further than the Hawks.
Canyon Lake, in the past, would have lost this battle with Wimberley as the Hawks were turnover happy accumulating 22 but clutch shooting would be the saving grace as this contest would be the Hawks last game before district play started.
A clutch Zac Griffin shot with just seconds remaining would be just what the doctored order for a home win.
Beating Wimberley is always a plus for a Hawk sport and beating the Texans’, 49-42 in an earlier affair did show that this sport might be ready for bigger things when this next year comes calling.
