A Hawk Sweep of Navarro in Softball is #9 for this Year’s Countdown

Canyon Lake had a great year with this record setting season started. A two game sweep in a Bi-District game over Navarro put this date in the 9th place spot for this 2018-19 top-15 countdown.

Mima's says good game Freshman Hawks!!

                          Go Hawks!!

Next on the Countdown will involve two games for the price of one. CL’s Softball crew swept the Navarro Panthers in grand fashion with the first contest having your Hawks having to come from behind twice in that first battle and then staving off Navarro for the sweep and winning their first round game for the first time becoming another first for Canyon Lake this year.

First off, The ReSporter will get off that first word.

To start this best-of-three series, Navarro would get 5 runs through the first 6 innings while your Hawks stood with two runs after a Bailey Bryan 2-run homer in the bottom of the 3rd inning.

CL had a hard time getting any momentum against a solid Panther pitcher and would need at least 3 runs in their last inning to continue the contest or 4 runs for a win.

The only two Hawks that had a hit up to this point of the game was Marley Carrizales and Bailey Bryan.

Freshman Kay Puente would have her biggest hit of the season with a one-out single to help get CL back to their top of the batting order. If Puente had not had a good at bat then The Lake would have had two outs with their top of the batting order up next.

It did not take long as CL’s bats were awakened just in time to tie the score.

               Way to Go Hawks

Navarro was not finished and responded with a 2-run homer, of their own, for another lead. Canyon Lake would answer the call and scored 3 runs in extra innings for a win. A first for the Softball team as they had an 0-4 record in post-season play up to this contest.

That next battle had the Hawks winning by scoring most of their runs during the beginning of this game and then having to hold off the Panthers and another, one run Rolaid’s Win, and another round of post-season games.

Pretty good for a team that fought back from an 0-8 start to their season and now fighting back to take two from Navarro.

Go Back and read that two game account for this #9 on the Countdown List.
